Loved Disneyland staying on property at Grand Californian due to the proximity of the hotel to the park, 5 minutes from your hotel to the gates through beautiful Disney Downtown. That along with magic hours and all the shops right there at your hotel.

Booking my trip for next winter to Disney World now though, and wanted to stay on property for those same features. Just now starting to realize that's nowhere near the same though from what I can see. Seems like you will always have to bus/drive/boat etc. while at Disney World. Definitely seems to lose some of the luster due to that, to me at least.

Whatcha mean?

We are planning for 2020 anyways, so think got that covered. Moreso talking about how expansive and spread out everything is comparatively speaking.

(2) totally different park layouts, really non-comparable except for some of the specific rides.

You can do that for Magic Kingdom by staying at one of the monorail resorts. Walk out the room, catch the train, 5 minutes later you are at the gates. But yes, you will have to bus or train to the other parks

I mean if you want to walk from a resort to a park like Magic Kingdom, stay at the Contemporary Resort.

Walk to Epcot, stay at either
- Boardwalk
- Beach Club
- Yacht Club

I’m not really understating what your asking either. Yea it’s more spread out, but it’s the size of a damn city also.

You will pay for it, but we stayed at Polynesian and it was well worth it with a short monorail to Magic Kingdom and you can also monorail it to Epcot.
No waiting on buses.
We were supposed to stay at Carib Beach Resorts but a cheerleader competition over Mardi Gras ended up upgrading us to Polynesian at no extra charge.

My Disney World thought is how did they not put a "Pizza Planet" in Toy Story Land? My son would love that.

Our family had that same thought. Now that they changed the old Pizza Planet to Pizza Rizzo, the crowds have plummetted. Not sure why they did not open Pizza Planet in Toy Story Land. Makes way too much sense.

We are doing Grand Floridian or Wilderness lodge, still trying to choose between the two because neither of the 2 are our most ideal dates.

Wilderness lodge looks to be the better for us and our young sons, but even less transport options making me hesitant. We loved the Grand Californian at Disneyland and the architecture seems very similar. Plus coming from Hawaii the woodsy vibe is awesome.

40 square miles. It's the size of San Francisco

I’d tell you to stay at wilderness lodge. Hearing and seeing reports of price not matching experience and rooms are needing to be refurbished badly at Grand Floridian. WL is pretty much how a perfect resort for Disney should be all over property. Food, service, rooms, details, everything about the place is old school Disney. Only thing it lacks that the other has is signature dining restaurants and the monorail. My two cents but I’m bias towards WL so...

We ended up going with WL. Only downside is the more limited transportation options

WDW is great because it is all spread out, but it is also inconvenient for that reason. Part of the experience of WDW is getting around though.

Isn't Artist Point at WL? That's a signature dining restaurant.

They changed it this past year to a character dinner. No longer 2 credits.

I went there for the first time several months ago and I was pleasantly surprised. The beaches were clean, the water was blue, the people were friendly, the food was fresh and I wasn’t murdered or robbed the entire time. I was offered drugs on several occasions but they were just being hospitable.

I’m not a fan of staying onsite for many reasons but Disney World is huge compared to Disneyland. If you wanna be close you gotta pick the park you wanna be closest to. But either way it’s a monorail or bus or boat unless you have a car. I’d rather have a car and be in control. So much quicker getting around especially at the end of the day when everyone floods the same transportation lines. Our condo is within 12 min of any park front entrance. Some Disney resorts are much closer but take twice the time due to their transportation failures.
