Denver things to do/airline to use
Wife and I are traveling to Colorado for the first time this October. We are going to stay at a place just a few minutes outside of downtown Denver. I'm looking for some recommendations on restaurants, breweries, galleries, cool shops, and dispensaries. I know there are literally hundreds of choices, I'm just looking for some different ideas from different people. We will be creating our own itinerary before we leave so I'm just wanting a handful of options.

Also, any cool hiking trails not too far from Denver would be awesome to check out. We also want to check out the more mountainous areas of Colorado at some point, but probably not this trip. Mainly going to stay in and around Denver for our first time to CO.

Also, we are going October 24-28. For anyone familiar with Colorado weather, should we be expecting any snow in late October? Or just really cold weather?

I'd consider using Spirit to save some money on airfare but we will have checked luggage. I haven't flown Southwest airlines in ages, anyone recommend using Southwest out of Hobby? Still much cheaper than United or AA.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried searching one of the countless Denver threads already on this board?

Safta is the Shaya restaurant in downtown Denver. It’s good but more small plate style which I’m not a big fan of. But that’s about all I know in the city. All my free time is spent in the mountains. For trails, get the All Trails App. You can search hiking trails on a map by filtered categories. You should be prepared for various weather in October incl snow especially the farther up you go.

If you’re checking bags go southwest unless spirit is a lot cheaper. Bags are free on southwest.

As for things to do, just make sure and avoid spending the trip on the 16th street mall, it’s terrible but easily accessible so a lot of people spend their whole trip there and have a bad time.

There are so many hiking options, dayhikesneardenver.com is a good resource.

I doubt we have snow in October. But then again I can’t tell you if it’s going to snow that weekend? Nor can the weather man right now.

I love how people think Denver is this snow globe

I quit using FRONTIER years ago.
When I go on vacation I like to relax and usually START WITH A DRINK ON THE PLANE.
FRONTIER IS MARRIED TO Pepsi, no cokes, so NO FRONTIER for me.
Also, Southwest is my airline of choice...always a good experience no bag fees. Use my SW Chase card for everything and always travel w pts.

You realize you can buy a coke in the airport before hand right? If you can get a direct to Denver on another airline great, but I’ll take a budget airline with a direct flight over a layover any day and twice on Sunday.

I always fly United to Denver because they have so many options if there is a delay or cancellation.

Where are you flying out of? New Orleans (MSY) to Denver on Southwest is always cheap. $175 after tax per person on the dates you listed.

Went in October 2 years ago and the weather was pleasant. Went hiking and had to start removing layers a quarter mile in.

If you have a United credit card, or way for free bags, then those flights are similarly priced.

Southwest is usually priced about the same as budget airlines if you add in baggage fees.

Nevermind, I see Hobby is your airport.
