Covid tests to get back into the country

Family is headed to Mexico in a couple of weeks. Someone told me that you can get test to take with you, then you zoom call in while you take them a day before you fly back. Anyone done this? Any company you recommend to order the tests from? TIA

I can’t believe they’re still doing this stupid shite requiring negative test for re-entry

Yes you need to check into which tests are proctored online and accepted by the US. One thing I have heard is once you purchase the proper test DO NOT open the box until the proctor instructs you to. On the other hand most destinations are helping Americans to get tested at their hotel/home/condo for convenience. It's a way to make a little bit of money for the tester and no hassle for the traveler. Just make sure you check your test brand for compliance.

iHealth is who I used. Works fine.

This ridiculous shite is keeping me from going abroad. Don’t want the hassle.

You can use your HSA to make the purchase and your health insurance will reimburse you $12 per test
Actually, most insurances are required by US Govt to reimburse fully for these tests. I have used the eMed tests also, which work well and are very convenient, and have been reimbursed fully by my health insurer for the full cost including shipping and tax.

Their verification service has been sold out for at least a month now.

For verification as well? Or just the actual test?

I used the Emed test twice last year and worked well. Make sure to bring a spare test though. On my second trip last year one of my test kits was defective and produced an "inconclusive" result. Luckily I had an extra kit and that one worked.

Just used delta fly ready recently.
Wasn't too bad.
On the recent trips with covid before you fly policy.
Spain was stupid quick
Ireland was quite a wait but ok.
Mexico got a little confusing. But not bad.

Some insures might reimburse but definitely not most. Most will reimburse you to the federal reimbursement level of $12

You health insurance provider will have nothing to do with the result but will reimburse AT LEAST for a portion of what the test costs

The test price includes the telehealth visit that is needed to generate a certified lab result for travel. And yea, most insurances (not all, but most) reimburse the full amount for the test price (which includes the telehealth portion). I have done this multiple times and been reimbursed the full amount by Blue Cross. Private insurance will reimburse for up to 8 tests per month per person listed on the policy.

I checked my plan and UHC only reimburses the $12 per test. Optum Store is $70 for 2 tests with Emed verification, so $46. Probably going this route for our Canada trip.

I use eMed as well. It's painless. Using them for Canada next week for the F1 GP.

I am interested on hearing more about these services. This is basically the same thing as the eMed tests BUT you can use the free government provided tests and they just offer the oversight and provide the results. At a cost of $15 it's much cheaper than the eMed and should work just the same...I just haven't been able to confirm it works. My mom is cruising next month and is going to do this one AND the eMed and try this one first, if it's rejected she will have the eMed to fall back on.

Yea, I haven't heard of that but not sure how much cost savings. 15 bucks for the appoint and lets say 10 bucks for the OTC test = 25 bucks which is the cost of the emed kit. I don't know if the tests are less than 10 as haven't bought them in a long long time to be fair.

Just end your trip at the Rio Grande river. Wade across and no test required. You may get a free plane ride home or at least a free bus ride. Lots of 5 star reviews.
