We are looking at going to the Dominican Republic this year. It's significantly cheaper to fly copa airlines and a layover in Panama Columbia.

My question is if that airport safe and how is copa airlines?

check Southwest. I think Dom Rep was an Air Tran route before they merged.

My wife and I flew Copa between Punta Cana and Panama last year. It was fine. We actually made use of the long layover by renting a car and going to see the Panama Canal. It was pretty cool.

Flew them right when the started the msy to Panama direct. I thought it was a good airline. Much nicer than some of the ones in the states. Panama is a pretty cool country.

Cops is a terrible airline, if you have to switch planes, you may not get a seat on the connecting flight, tickets, boarding passes don't matter.

It will be about 1100 less to fly Copa rather than American. Trying to decide whether to book it now or wait it out until Southwest posts their flights.

Or try and get a spirit flight. I know spirit gets shite on here, but their South American flights from Miami/FLT can't be beat. I paid $300 RT to Panama in December (most expensive time of the year), and I'm taking the SO to Colombia in a few weeks for $170 RT each.

I went to Panama last October and we flew Copa. We flew to ATL on Delta and then flew Copa to Panama City. No issues at all.

Now customs in Panama City was looking at my wife and I like we were smuggling cocaine.

OP, bring cash with you to pay the customs fee when you arrive at the DR. The wife and I had cash but some other passengers were unpleasantly surprised when they had a customs booth demanding $10 cash to enter the country.

Also, use one of the local "ushers" to carry your bags to the taxi/bus. The guy I used had bribed the security guard checking for proper customs authorization. It allowed us to bypass a 30-45 minute line of tourists being checked out. We breezed right through the terminal

Best $2 I spent all vacation

Flights have went up about $200 per person since last week. Would y'all hold out and hope they go down or book now thinking they will continue to rise? It's Thanksgiving week we are trying to go.
