Condo/lake house in TX Hill Country

Please throw out some suggestions for a condo on the lake or lake house in the TX hill country. I looked on VRBO and quickly became overwhelmed. I realize Lake Travis is huge, but are there smaller lake areas that are just as nice (and probably cheaper/less crowded)? We'd like to relax, swim, hike, and do day-trips into Austin and other parts of the hill country. Our dates are 6/7-11. Thanks so much!

Look around Canyon Lake
We went to that area last year and had a great time.

Funny. We just booked for later in June kinda the same thing. We found a great place on the Frio River. Look between Concan and Leakey. That is the supposedly the best part of the Frio. It is far from Austin though. We are doing the Frio for a few days, then Fredricksburg and then 3 nights near Austin. Booked a place near Barton Springs.

Yep, I grew up going to that area on summer vacations. The cabins used to be 100 feet from the river but they were flooded and washed away a few years ago. They rebuilt higher up and further from the river so not quite as nice as before. There is a scenic drive over the big hills to Lost Maples.

Back to the OP, If you want a lake front then you're limited and will pay for that. If you don't mind driving 20-30 minutes to get to the lake then look in Cedar Park, Leander area. You will be close to hiking in the Balcones canyon preserve, Warblers Trail are great trails. We just stayed in an airbnb north of Lake Travis and west of Leander about 15 minutes down a little country road. The place was pretty isolated and was a compound with 2 or 3 rentals and the owner lived on site....goats running around, pretty funky. But I'm not sure I would recommend it, the owner was pretty strange and my wife was convinced he was a serial killer.

Lol! I think I saw that listing on VRBO with the goats and owner on site. I was getting overwhelmed at that point and that pushed me over the edge. I would have probably sided with your wife on the serial killer possibility

Inks Lake is smaller but a great option. If you like to play golf you might look at Horseshoe Bay resort on Lake LBJ

We rented a house on lake travis in June and I wanted to bring my boat to take the kids around. How has the lake level been the last couple of years? I remember 5-7 years ago it was damn near dry.
