See a couple of similar threads, but planning to take the 5&6 y/o to CO at the end of July. Any suggestions? They are very outdoorsy but probably not old enough for any hiking. We’ve been to Steamboat a few times in the winter, and are looking to do something different.
Easy rafting, fly fishing, and horseback riding may be good.

Colorado springs has garden of the gods which is paved and a very easy walk. Also the royal gorge bridge is in that area.

Glenwood springs has rafting and hot springs. Definitely drive trailhead road through the rockies and have a picnic at one of the stops at high elevation

Can hit that, Seven Falls, and then drive up to the summit of Pikes Peak. All are within a few miles of each other.

We did a Jeep tour in July, it was pretty great. He does half day or full day, you drive his jeep and follow him, he will tailor the route to your expierience level. Jeep Tours Colorado by Native Jeeps just outside Idaho Springs. when you're done, head into Idaho Springs for some Pizza at Beau Jo's.

Pikes Peak, Mt Blue Sky, both were fun. We did the train on Pikes Peak and drove Blue Sky. You have to get tickets in advance for Blue Sky to drive, they only allow a certain amount of traffic, you'll see why if you drive it. Of course Pikes Peak train you need advance tickets, park and take the bus up to the terminal.

It's been a few years but when our kids were that age we did a great family float on the Arkansas River out of Buena Vista. The kids loved it. Had a few mild rapids and the scenery was beautiful.

We used Breckenridge as our hub for the week. It was about an hour and fifteen minute drive over to Buena Vista. Also a 45 minute drive to Georgetown, which had a really fun train that the kids loved.

Breckenridge also has a great summer fun park at the ski resort.

The Wild Animal Sanctuary about 45 minutes NE of Denver might be a good option for kids that age if you are in that area.

RMNP is incredible- hikes are relatively easy as well.
Tons of wildlife in the area
Horseback riding
Poudre River in Fort Collins was good; not sure if there is float trip for younger ages
Drive among the mountain tops on trail ridge road to grand lake and rent a pontoon boat

Colorado Springs

Pikes Peak- I haven't done it but they have a train to the peak
Garden of Gods
Air Force Academy
Fort Carson- a few static displays of tanks and Bradley's
Great Sand Dunes- Go early in morning by lunch time it will be scorching hot

Royal Gorge has a touristy park they may enjoy.
Royal Gorge rafting again not sure if they have a float trip.
Georgetown Loop railroad- rail was lame 2 miles there and two miles back. Silver mine tour was fun.

Durango

Durango to Silverton train was fun but its a long day. May want to consider bus back
There is a low flowing river, don't remember the name, that will have a suitable rafting trip.
Rent jeep and go on the off road trails
Drive up Million Dollar Hwy
Mesa Verda was fun
State Park in New Mexico that has a huge reservoir. Rent a pontoon boat with inflatable tube to pull the kids on
Bike riding in Telluride

If you stay in Durango make sure the place you stay at has AC. July is hot and our bedroom was still 80 degrees at midnight! Don't believe the its the mountains you'll be fine BS.

5&6 can hike. Just make sure you have good shoes snacks and candy to slowly give out.

My kids have done several hikes 5-9 miles at elevation when those ages. Just plan accordingly.

How long are you staying

You will still see unmelted snow in July in upper elevations.

We go to Breck every July for about 3 weeks to escape the Houston heat. Been doing this for 15+ years. The town is 9,100 feet above sea level so the early mornings and evenings are typically in the high 40's or low 50's. Perfect weather. Breck stays a little bit cooler in the middle of the summer than other towns at lower elevations (ex. Beaver Creek, Avon, Steamboat, etc.)
