Trying to prepare my teen for an E/F tour to these countries. I doubt he brings any appliance other than his phone. I am a bit confused as to the standards, if any, over there. Will he need two different plugs? Is there a universal?

Also, I am told he will need to carry things like his passport, vax card etc. everywhere. Is there a no brainer belt or pack to get him?

Your phone charger works on their voltage so you don't need a power converter, but you do need a plug adapter.

Italy and Greece use the same plug...for the most part.

There are passport wallets that have a vax card window that I got for recent travels, those are great.

A standard money belt or one around the neck is fine, although I don't use one much.

Adapter is the easy play here. But many hotels have also switched to the USB port/bedside lamp combo.

Right. If you're staying in a very modern hotel, they will have USBs.

If not, probably not. Its hit or miss, mostly miss.

He also mentioned "teen" and did not specify sex.

If its a girl, her hair straightener won't work on their voltage (unless she has a dual voltage one), so she will either need a voltage adapter or an international hair straightener. ONly reason I know this is my wife has an international hair straightner that is dual voltage and comes with a bunch of different plugs she uses just for travel.

Just buy him a portable battery pack ( he needs one anyway as he’s traveling and in case you’re stranded at an airport or people are hogging outlets ) keep it and a cord in the backpack or Fanny pack at all times
Portable charger

Also I bought this adapter and used it in Iceland . Sitting in my closet now in case I go to any of the other countries as it has plug ins for pretty much any kind of outlet you’d run across worldwide
Amazon travel adapter

Worth buying in my opinion

We are in Spain now. The only extra thing we carry is a mask because all public transportation requires a mask to be worn. This includes taxis.

I’d never carry my important documents around town. They stay in the hotel safe.

I am in Italy now. He will need KN95 type mask for all public transportation. I would buy a universal plug adapter for phone, it has worked in France and Italy, not sure about Greece. I have not been asked for a Vax card since I got here in either country but have had to take a covid test for flights within Europe. I've made copies of my passport but have carried my passport on me the entire time, I wouldn't trust housekeeping unless it's in a safe.

They sell plug adapter kits that have multiple plugs built into one or that have all of them together.

Have him make good photo copies of all his identification and email it to you and himself. That way if something gets lost, he can make a copy. Makes getting a new one easier.

Is he actually going to wear a "money belt"? Just have him remove all but the essential cards from his wallet or get a new wallet with just money, credit card, ID, etc. so that you can keep it in a front pocket when necessary like the subways, busy lines, etc.

No fanny pack…it just screams tourist. Italy, especially Rome, is notorious for pick pockets though.

Get him a wallet like a Ridge that he can carry in his front pocket. Put nothing in back pockets including the phone. Don’t set the phone down on the table when dining outside.

I went on an EF tour with my kid a few years ago. Your some likely won’t be staying in hotels with USB ports built in. They stay in budget-friendly places. Nice enough but not new and modern.

I would go with a good portable power supply and an adapter to charge it. He will likely appreciate the power supply during the days. The days are long and his phone will likely die before they return to the hotel for the night.

As for the phone- make sure to figure out the service in advance. You will want some way for him to communicate with you.

As an aside- our trip was great. EF Tours does a great job. We were in Paris during a terrorist incident (isolated) and it was handled very well. It is not a relaxing vacation. It is a packed tour from morning until night. He will enjoy the trip.

The trip begins Saturday. I went to Verizon and was told the plan pops up on the phone when in a foreign country. I forgot to ask if he, as a minor, will be able to approve it. Anyone know? I tried to sign up in advance and it looks like you must be abroad to do it.

Do not get a fanny pack. They are to easy to pop off or steal from. Have him put items in his front pockets.

Too late. He doesn't tuck shirts. It's very slim. You can't even see he has it on.

The K95 mask thing must be new. Regular surgical type masks were fine when we were there last fall.

Verizon will send him a text saying he's on their $10 a day international travel plan. It will ask him if he wants to add more GB (only 0.5 a day) if he runs out.

He needs to make sure to turn all roaming on in his setting as well.

Definitely need to find an adapter for plug ins.

I just got back from Greece. I did not need to show my Vax card once and they just removed all mask requirements for public transport on June 1st.

I did not need any covid test to go anywhere (London --> Greece) besides coming back to the states and they just removed that requirement.

Only place that might ask him are the airlines leaving America, which they shouldn't but for some reason they will on occasion.
