Has anyone been before? I'm going out there on a work assignment in NM for about a week and that park is nearby. Was wondering any particular spots to check out or TB's experiences were like there? TIA

Went last year, was very beautiful down there. Might want to take a light jacket also, it's quite a bit cooler down there. Moving around kept me warm enough, but when I would stop for a minute I started getting a little cold.

I'm going to piggy back if you don't mind, Sparty. I'll also be in Albuquerque for a week in August. Any other recommendations in the area? Taos? Sante Fe? I think the Grand Canyon is too far for a day trip

Santa Fe is a great place to visit, very unique. Not a whole lot to do/see in Albuquerque

We are leaving next Friday (20th) for a road trip. We have one night in Mesa Verdi, couples of nights in Telluride and will wing the rest of the trip from there. We might hit Moab for rafting the Colorado river (need calm water with a 7 year old) and might head to Page Az. We could also stay in the mountains exploring. Just depends on what the kids feel like doing

Go first thing in the morning on a weekday/slow day. If you're one of the first in there, you can take your time walking down and exploring. At certain points if you're early you can only hear the dripping of the water - amazing experience. Carlsbad Caverns is a great place. Don't worry about the cold in the caves, you'll get brought up to temp quickly after resurfacing.

Sante Fe has cool art galleries/restaurants.

I liked the hiking in ABQ (Sandia, Petroglyphs Park)

I’m interested in this as well. Just got El Paso and Las Cruces for my work territory.

Have lots of stuff I can do to extend the weekend within 2/3 hours

Here is a post I made in another thread last week with a few ideas.

LINK

Santa Fe NF and Carson NF are both open now so lots of hiking and fishing opportunities are back on the table.
