That place at the marina has been a million different things and it used to be terrible. Haven’t been to this place, I’ll check it out next time I’m over that way

White lightning is probably the best dinner in town. Beau Vines steakhouse is also a solid choice.

Lula Perl for lunch. That guy can flat out cook.

Food trucks downtown are all good, but Bad Wolf is damn good BBQ..

If you want pizza and beer, Utility Brewing is the place. Never had a bad meal here.

Sundown for bar food.

Did Sundown open back up? They were closed down last time I tried to go there. Beau Vines also seems to go thru stages of being shut down and open...

Opened back up a few months ago with completely new ownership. Same vibe, basically the same menu, drastically better service. Place went way downhill under previous owners before closing down.

Now it’s more like Sundown from 10-15 years ago when service was good and ticket times were only 10-15 minutes.

Went there Saturday and had a small lunch before heading to a crawfish boil. Patio was nice to sit out and service was great.

I wanted to eat at the food trucks across the street, but the wife wanted to sit and relax for a while.

There is a cool food truck park downtown Ruston open Tuesday-Saturday during lunch hours. Try Bad Wolf BBQ if you like brisket. Staple Sandwich and Grown and Grazed Burgers are awesome too. There’s a few shops downtown, but not much. There’s a newer shopping center with TJ Maxx, Old Navy, and Hobby Lobby across I-20 from La Tech. Utility Brewing is a pretty cool pizza joint and brewery downtown. That’s really about it unless you head to Monroe/West Monroe which is only a 30 minute drive.

If you’re up for a short drive, Monroe has some nice antique shops and a walk along the riverfront is relaxing. In Shreveport, the Boardwalk is decent for a couple hours and there's some cool little museums if you're into that. For food, check out Waterfront Grill in Monroe

Take a 30 minute drive out of Ruston headed down the Vienna Hwy (US167) then turn left onto the White Lightnin' Road (LA146) to Port-au-Prince for some fried catfish or steak and homemade fixins.

Food is great, folks are friendly, and looks out over one of the prettiest (if not the prettiest) lake in North LA.

Yea you're right. I attended Louisiana Tech in the early 1970's. As I recall that was a dry parish at the time. It was a bible belt parish. No alcohol sold legally at all. You had to drive down the interstate across the parish line and buy the beer or booze and bring it back and drink it in a dorm or frat house.

Ruston does not really have anything that stands out food wise. Monroe is a much better option. The best meal in Monroe is at Parish. It can punch with any place in the state. Other good options include Apero, Does, Cotton, Mohawk, Warehouse, Waterfront, Genusas, Ginos, Monroe's, Fat Pelican. For crawfish hit Cormiers, Crawfish City or Claw Daddy's. If you are wanting something specific I can try to steer you there.
this. In my opinion Ruston is a perfect little college town. But for adults? Not much. Head to Monroe for a nice meal. Much closer than Shv. One thing I’ve gone to a couple times and enjoyed is the Biedenharn (sp?) museum. Really cool stuff and an awesome little garden.

Antique Alley in West Monroe is neat way to burn a couple hours too

But I like low key stuff.

Ruston doesn’t have anywhere for a “nice” meal but I think it punches well above its weight for a general meal out for lunch/dinner. There’s quite a few pretty good casual places for a town of its size, but the nice restaurants are definitely lacking. The only place you can get a steak in the whole town is beau vines or squire creek, who actually has the best food in town in my opinion

Dawg house is closed. Yes the one already closed. Terrible food. Utility Pizza is really good.

Y’all could just sign up for the parents orientation and lean about Tech. I’m sure your son will be overloaded with info and could use another set of ears. Hit the Log Cabin for a meal before heading home.
