NYC or Boston. LA is just too spread out for 3 days. Now NYC is too big for 3 days but I also think its a city you need to visit several times in smaller chunks. Boston is great too but I would lean NYC.

Never been to L.A., but I love Boston and NYC. I’d like to go back to Fenway, but I’d probably pick NYC. Just more to do and see.

Been to all three. Easy answer for me - NYC.

NYC is by far the best of the three, but 3 days in nyc is way too short.

3 days is perfect in Boston.

Choose either of those and you can’t go wrong.

Most recognize, because of the size and scope, that it is difficult to fit everything into a long weekend in New York. If that was the duration of my trip, though, it's pretty easy to set expectations and visit a couple museums/attractions that appeal to you + eat at a few well-regarded spots that serve your favorite dishes/food.

My parents live in Williamsburg and three days in Brooklyn/Manhattan is enough for me. Even having a place to stay, money adds up quick.

Skip LA. We were there for 4 days in April and it was awful.
Parking was very expensive. Traffic crazy busy. Tried to go to dinner and every night Google maps had drive times of 1 1/2 to 2 hours at 7:30 to go 15 to 20 miles. bums on the street even at the Santa Monica Pier. 10 cent bags at Walmart, $2.50 recycle fee on a case of beer, $4.50+/gal gas, $1.75 recycle fee on a 6 pack of Diet Coke. Obviously we didn't enjoy as much as hoped but we checked that box and don't need to go back. Oh yeah, paper straws suck. lol

My point is that he can do 3 days in nyc and will want to come back to nyc for a longer trip, in addition to still wanting to visit Boston.

If he just does the 3 days in Boston he can cross that off his list and save nyc for when he has more time.

Again, I’d never say no to a nyc trip, even just for a night. But 3 days in nyc will leave you wishing for more time, whereas 3 days in Boston will leave you satisfied.

Either way, he can’t go wrong.

I've done this ^^. We are thinking of going back to Boston, but to do the outlying areas (Salem, Walden Pond, etc). I feel like 3 days in NYC didn't even scratch the surface, but it did narrow down the scope of our next visit since we had a chance to get the bigger attractions out of the way (Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty etc).

We’ve been to NYC a few times. I feel like 3 days will be better spent in NYC rather than unknown places. Thanks for all of the info. NYC it is

I’ve got to be honest, I was in agreement with this board on NY until I read this post.

Go somewhere new. Experience new places. I change my vote to Boston.

If we do Boston for 3 days, should we stay downtown?

There are a number of good areas you can stay in. Near Copley, around the Boson Commons, there are even convenient places in Cambridge and Somerville that you can stay in for cheaper and be into the city quickly.

For the record, I’m a big fan of NY. I’m actually heading there tomorrow for the PGA Championship. But 3 days is a perfect amount of time for Boston, and if you’ve already been to New York, take the chance to explore someplace new.

I’ve been to Boston & NYC several times. Love them both and have considered moving up there while I’m young

You can see everything in Boston in 3 days. But 3 days in NYC will make you want to plan another trip

With that said, I’d go to Boston and stay at the Envoy (Seaport District).
