Next April (2025) will mark ten years for my wife and I and we've started talks on a trip (sans our three kids ). We did a Sandals resort for our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. Looking for something similar. Just relaxing near a beach being catered to for a few days with some exploring mixed in.

I've started looking into other Sandals resorts (we did Montego Bay in 2015) but should we be looking elsewhere? Will likely be a five day trip. Would like to keep everything under 5K and preferably short travel time (less than 5 hours). What I remember being nice about MB was the short travel from the Jamaican airport to the resort. Would like to keep that travel under an hour.

I know we are still a year out but likely never too early to plan for something like this. Would like to have it booked by this summer.

Excellence Resorts are amazing - we have done both around Cancun and a buddy just got back from their Punta Cana one.

Bungalows Key Largo was great.

Did a second honeymoon last year. Never left the property.

Based on your request of 5 days, under 5K, and under 5 hours travel time Cancun probably provides the best value and most options. Someone posted earlier but we really like the Excellence resorts.

One note, April is in the middle of the busy season for most of the Carribean/Central America, so prices, and flights will be higher than in the summer or fall.

Excellence Riveria Cancun is great. I am sure the other's are fantastic, but I can vouch for that one.

El Dorado Royale and Casitas is also great, slightly below ERC IMO.

My wife (no pics) and I stayed at Casa Velas in Puerta Vallarta for our 10th anniversary in 2017. Absolutely loved it and going back for our 20th in 2027.

Thanks to Floyd Dawg’s recommendation, I’m currently at Casa Velas on my 10 year anniversary trip. It’s excellent. If you want to relax and have total peace and quiet, this is the place.

If you’re into golf, there’s a course that wraps around the resort. Heard the zip lining is awesome here but we haven’t tried.

We are here five nights and it was right at 4k.

Excellence has two in PC. We did Excellence El Carmen last month and loved it.

Figured I’d mention that it’s heading into low season in Puerto Vallarta. I think I heard our resort is at about 40% occupancy. The most people I’ve seen at our pool at one time has been 24.

Join Hyatt Ziva Cancun Facebook page. You will like this resort. It has two different beaches.

Congrats for really stepping out for a new experience after ten years. Your world is the Caribbean. You could have spent a week and a half in Spain if you planned better. But it's just the Caribbean. If that's what makes you happy, I guess, but if you intend to stay married, the Caribbean is considerably underwhelming for a 10yr.

I guess you guys like that kind of thing, but there's no way I would have done that during my marriage. I want to hit Jordan, Argentina, etc., not... fricking Mexico.

Wife and I did Playa Mujeres a few years ago. A++. Service was great, pool was great, food was decent. Room was awesome. Huge shower, jacuzzi tub in the room. We had the room with the private pool, but we really didn’t use it because it was ice cold.

I want to go back. Soon.

Excellence Playa Mujeres is great. Easy day trip over to Isla Mujeres from there too. Haven’t been to Excellence Rivieria Cancun since they’ve updated most of the rooms, but I assume it’s on par now as well.

Heaven forbid someone wants to relax for a few days with his wife, eat a late breakfast, nap and not be too jet lagged on the return to normal life.

Probably won’t fit in the budget for a full 5 day trip, but the one and only north of puerto Vallarta is pretty great. Could pair it with the hacienda San Angel which is in town and a good couples spot.
