Our favorite is Kauai

I just spent a week there. The food scene left a lot to be desired, but the topography was beautiful. If you like hiking, Kauai is your spot. I loved it there and would go back.

This is why Maui will always be out favorite. It's such a perfect mix IMO

have you been?

went to beaches all over maui and waikiki and the sand is better in alabama and the water is better at 30a.

im talking specifically the water and the sand specifically. of course the palm trees and the others sights and sounds are better in Hawaii but if you are just going to sit on the beach, much better places to do that and way cheaper

i loved Hawaii but you dont go there just to lay on the beach. you go there to enjoy the natural beauty of the place. The waterfalls, the black sand beach, the caves, the red sand beach, the hidden pools.....not to sit on the beach.

and the water is cold AF

The island hopper was the easiest flight of the trip.
Can second this. We flew to Honolulu then immediately flew on to the Big Island for 4 days. When we were heading back, we arrived at the airport a couple hours early. Checked in and they asked if we wanted to leave immediately. We agreed, so they put our family of 5 on a plane that was departing. It ended up being like 75 minutes from dropping off the rental to deplaned in Honolulu. Five round trip tickets were less than $400.

I agree that there are bad beaches in Hawaii…. But have you been to Napili Bay? Amazing sand and water. Not cold at all

great timing on this thread. 30 year anniv this year and wife has mentioned Hawaii. is flying from ATL any less of a pain jet lag wise than flying to/from Europe? She says the London/ATL flights take too long to recover from.
Is Hawaii any better? worse?

Just for comparison's sake:

We just went to Hawaii in April. Flew from New Orleans to L.A., then L.A. to Honolulu. NO to LA was just over 4 hours; LA to Honolulu was 6 hrs. 10 hrs. total.

We were okay, because we got to Hawaii at 3 in the afternoon, but it was 8 PM back home, and every day we were there we generally woke up earlier than we did back home and went to bed earlier.

We went to Europe last summer. Flew from New Orleans to Philly, then Philly to Zurich overnight. Didn't sleep well; was jet lagged when we arrived in Europe big time for about a day, then was over it.

We flew back home direct from London to New Orleans; left London at 4PM and got home just before 8 pm the same day. We had no problem with jet lag then.

That being said, in your case an Atlanta to London flight is SHORTER, about 8 hours nonstop. An Atlanta to Honolulu flight will be 9 1/2 hours on Delta's non-stop.
