Awesome pics. Glad you liked Madrid. Apparently it's hit or miss for some, but it's one of my favorite European cities. Also, ¡Hala Madrid!

Since you mentioned some fantasy type stuff, thought you (or someone reading this) might find it interesting that the plaza you posted a picture of in Seville is featured in Star Wars: Episode II and the Alcazar Palace is the setting for Dorne in Game of Thrones!

Based on your experience, where would you recommend going for a beach vacation in Spain? I'm looking at taking a week or two vacation next August, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to stay. Would love to hear the names of some small coastal towns you drove through. (Full disclosure: literally looking to just bum it up on the beach; I'm moving to Madrid soon and won't need to "Eurotrip" it in any way, shape, or form.)

Fabulous trip. I pulled a similar loose route and always recall Olive trees, tapas, paella, and gazpacho from that tour. Ronda is a great side trip from that route for anyone plotting a similar adventure. Well done and thanks for adding the pics

Have you considered Mallorca (Majorca)? Since you will spend time mainland later Mallorca is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean. Upscale and mature destination but not best economical option. Mainland beaches might best be around Marbella

Awesome trip! I need to revisit my credit card rewards program. That's a great price for 3 weeks!

Based on the places I went I would definitely recommend the Costa Brava area bout an hour north of Barcelona. That's where I did the cliff jumping, but it's natural beauty and it being less crowded made it the best beach towns I saw.

I went to 2 main beaches, Cala de Castell and Platja de sa Riera. These beaches were much more chill than others I stopped at in Southeast Spain.

The pictures at the bottom of my second post are from those 2 beaches.

Some cities I would NOT recommend, but were recommended to me are the Peniscola area, and Benidorm. These places were nothing but old people and not nearly the natural beauty of Costa Brava. Not much different than going to any beach resort town here in the U.S.

I kind of brushed off the islands because I figured they'd be too expensive to be worth it, but I'll definitely give it a look.

Those shots of your cliff jumps were beautiful, I'll check out some places along there! Was mostly looking at Andalucia over Catalonia before, which may be where part of my problems in finding good spots stemmed from.

Yeah they have some pretty places in Andalusia, but nothing I saw compared to Costa Brava. Most towns in Andalusia were just long beaches with resorts and stuff along the coast.

Costa Brava seemed more secluded, and apparently more of a vacation spot for wealthier folks, so alot of houses and whatnot as opposed to big hotels and resorts. More "Mediterranean" I'd say.

Sounds great, that's exactly what I'm looking for (assuming I find something for relatively cheap, that is). Looking at images of big hotels on the beach in Malaga really bummed me out.

Great recap. Very well done. I'm in Barcelona now and it is just phenomenal. I went up to Montserrat Monastery yesterday - way too crowded and touristy for my tastes but did take in the views and get a great meal of steak, delicious patatas, seared tomatoes and peppers and a delicious red table wine. Then a night in the gothic quarter. I've got a total of nine days so Mrs Pimp and I have a lot planned . So far it's been pretty awesome.

Yeah that's my style. I go and stay in a region and usually take 2/3 day trips to outlying sites. Yesterday I went to Sitges for the flower carpet festival and went to all the Gaudi sites today and tonight I am going to the Cavas Cordineu Winery for dinner/ drinks etc. I'll do a Barcelona trip report when I get back.

I planned this trip basically to not have a plan. All I booked was the flight and a rental car. Everything else was done on the spot. Most of my hotel and AirBnB stays were booked the night before or the night of.

Awesome. Did this same thing when I backpacked around Europe in 2000. Thought I'd spend more time in Spain, but ended up loving France and Belgium more, so only spent a few nights in Spain. Still pissed I didn't go to Portugal.

Solo travelling is awesome. Wish I could still do it, but with wife and kids that's no longer possibly.
