M-Free 99s, got them on a big sale at the end of last year, has been a great ski. Really love them in the trees as well.

Yeah, I cancelled my March trip. Decided to go to Boston with a friend running the marathon in April. Put a storage wax on the skis, shed a tear and started looking for condos in 2027.

it ain't over yet boys. we got 15 inches of fresh from the last storm in about 24 hours with a bit more in the forecast for next week.

but that's been the season...living storm to storm with high pressure ridges in between.

The problem, at least here in Colorado, is that it is mid to upper 40s everyday between storms so nothing can stick around.

Never give up! Never surrender!

I’m pretty excited about my pow day at Snowbasin tomorrow. It’s been few and far between this year.

I'm on day 6 of a 15 day trip in South Lake Tahoe and I had my skis stolen on Friday. They were taken from the Stagecoach base right near the lift. I put them on the back side of the rack where I had to walk up an icy slope to place them thinking this would deter theft. Wrong..

Heavenly security guard said that theft is bad this season all around Tahoe. Spoke with a group on the lift today and they knew someone who had their skis stolen yesterday.

It's really on the rise everywhere and it sucks. It's no your fault but I started using a ski lock this season anytime I stop more than to just pee.

Have you checked with the mtn to see if anyone turned them in?

Buddy thought his board got stolen a couple of years ago at Keystone and turned out someone just grabbed the wrong one then turned it in at the mtn the next day. Unless you have custom graphics they all look alike.

Season may be over next week, at least for Colorado/Utah. High pressure dome settling in around mid-March. Not sure how Colorado/Utah will recover from that.

If I'm skiing with someone that also skis, we always swap a ski and pole so we have mismatching pairs and put them away from each other on different racks.

The west is going to burn down this summer.

I saw exposed rocks on north facing runs that get some grooming today. We're so fricked this summer

Yeah, it’s going to be really, really bad. It was always likely to be a bad season. But man, this was really bad for Tahoe/Colorado. I do most of my skiing in Wyoming/PNW, which will end up having OK seasons, but this is as bad as I recall over a few decades.

I reported it to security within 30 minutes. I also went on the website for stolen sports gear, etc. (chargeback.com) that they told me about. It’s now been 5 days and nada.

Ran into a group that knew someone who had their skis stolen the day after mine. Security says this is the worse year in years for stolen gear all around Tahoe. Most people that have been skiing for decades have never known someone to have gear stolen.

As far as switching skis, some have had them still stolen, which means two people have stolen gear, or the thieves steal both pairs because they’re watching.

Skied Palisades last friday, Mt Rose on Sat and Northstar Sunday. On Sunday i think it was colder in the southeast than in the Sierras. I was skiing with a short sleeve shirt and was still a little warm, think it was 65F. The forecast for Olympic Valley doesnt get below freezing for the forecasted days. Cant see this season lasting more than another week or so if those conditions hold. The slush skiing was awesome tho.

hell yeah brother, i was totally unaware how close Reno was to Tahoe. A friend moved there recently and I went visit him and all the places I mentioned above in the previous post were less than an hour from his house. I dont think I am ever going to go anywhere else.

ETA: it had rained a week prior to last friday at the summit so you couldnt really ski anything but groomers, and was also fairly cold. so everything was like a big ice block off the groomers (groomers were still awesome). Once it warmed up sat and sun, the slush was top notch. Enjoy

That's the best part- about an hr to Palisades on the ikon pass or north star/heavenly/Kirkwood. Now, the drive does suck in a blizzard or snowstorm if you can even make it... Reno can also get some nasty winds ripping off the mountain. The runways are north south so strong West winds means horizontal landings.

I may try sierra at Tahoe tomorrow, alpine meadows sat, and Palisades Sundays. Nice little variety. Already have parking for Sat and sun at Palisades, will see if I can switch one day to alpine just to explore a bit. Actually, sierra at Tahoe is far. I may do 2 days at Palisades and one at alpine

I am sure you know, but they have the base to base gondola that connects Palisades and Alpine

Pitiful season up here at Mt. Bachelor, Bend, Oregon USA.

For reference, I had over 50 days down on Bachelor by 11 March, last season.

This season, eight.

Sad pants.

At least the tree cutting is getting good.

Had an awesome first day out here in Tahoe. Spring skiing at Alpine Meadows. Early morning groomers were already soft. Sunspot is a great run early in the day. High traverse (high T) opened mid morning and it was fun. Never expected to be rock hiking today but did it twice. Well worth it for the nice soft snow. I really like Alpine, perfect mountain for blues and blacks. Some lifts already closed for the season, but I got to see the general areas.

Base of Alpine. I parked in the first row right by the base, absolutely perfect.

View of lake Tahoe from the top of the summit lift

After the hike of high T. Crossed those rocks

View of the run. Snow was super soft

View from the Sherwood lift in the back. This lift was only open for the high traverse run. Everything else was rocky or closed in the back. Got baked in the sun

View from the scott lift. Only 2 runs open over here. I can imagine this would be great in good snow. Nice and steep

Another view facing towards summit from one of the scott lift runs
