No Mountain Standard? Come on man!
Just kidding. You hit some great spots. Next time make sure to get in Mountain Standard though.

And I don’t doubt what you said about the Ikon Resorts you listed, but a group of friends looking to travel and are skilled enough to take advantage of the increase in difficulty vs. what Epic has to offer seems like a rare thing. Feel like you need to live there or close by to be capable of it, but I could be making excuses for myself too
He was asking about Alyeska, if you are going to ask about that place I am going to guess you can ski and are wanting something more off the beaten path with a bit more challenge.

That’s where we disagree, cause I assume if you’re at the highest level, then you already know about Alyeska. But I do agree with you that Ikon overall has more challenging resorts. It all depends on which one of us assumed rightly.

Biggest Surprise: $100 to valet park at Ritz Carlton for Après Ski (we parked in the bear lot and took the free shuttle!)
The $200 bottle of Veuve will add up too!
$100 to park at the Grand Hyatt is worth it for a day trip if you have a crew with you. They take all your stuff out the car, bring your gear to a nice locker room so you can get ready, and your skis get brought to the rack on the snow. Considering it’s like $50 to park in the garage, the extra $50 feels like luxury. If it’s just me and the kids, I park in Arrowhead fo free. It’s less than a 100 yd walk to the lift.

Sitting in the gondola today I noticed that one of my skis split at the spot of a repaired core shot.
Now I need a new set. Evo has some nice prior year models for $800 with bindings but the $2200 DPS 105 Krizen with pivot 15s would be a sweet setup. My wife (no pics) has a DPS Pagodas for her touring setup and they are incredibly light. Any suggestions?

First time in 16 years that we did not, it was just a couples getaway for our anniversary. Did lots of couples activities like Hot Springs, dog sledding, snowmobiling, day at the spa, etc.

Catching up a bit; did you get the insulated or shell bib?
I mostly ski the rockies so prefer the insluated but if you got the shell you'll want thermal bottoms but you don't want anything you'll have to tuck in yoiur boots so look into the SmartWool 3/4 length bottoms to wear under the shell
if you got insulated, you should be good with no baselayer at all.

Going back to Steamboat in march with the kiddos... to ski
this was just a couples trip, so many things to do in Vail (in the winter time) that are clearly note available in Houston... do we did those things.

How a group of volunteers brought Alabama’s only ski slope back to life
I saw they had food trucks last week and thought about making the drive. I definitely want to support their efforts.

I'm thinking a bib to fight snow arse.
Currently just do a base of light underarmor bottoms or light midlayer pants. When Super cold, sub 5, I do the heavy underarmor bottoms.
But I'm always warm and vent.
I'm thinking I go with the pants shell and just adjust the bottom layers as needed. Right?
I'll be trying a bunch on to find the fit this trip.
But that doesn't helpe decide insulation or shell.

I think it's more of a personal preference. I don't do any parks where a shell might be more preferred for the additional flexibility, I also don't like additional layers on my legs and with a 60g insulation I can be good down into single digits (with no bottom baselayer) and not feel my legs cold at all. Maybe cool at times but never to the point where I've been cold.
I would say the say I've worn a 60g insulated bib into the 40s as well and never felt "hot" so I like the versatility of a lightly insulated bib BUT I ski mainly the rockies, resorts, not skiing in rain, not doing any parks, etc.
I'm usually on the mountain 15-20 days a year and have been in the Columbia Highland Summit II Bib and think, for the value, they're a great choice. From time to time I search e-Bay and Marketplace to see if anyone is dumping a shell bib for around $100 just to have if needed but I would really only want to wear it if I could get by with nothing more than say a midweight wool baselayer underneath. No desire to add sweatpants or anything that bulky under a shell. I would rather open vents on a 60g insulated bib than add layers under a shell.

pivot 15s
how do you like these?
just pulled the trigger on a new pair of skis and went with the tyrolia attack 14s instead. DIN is 8 so didn't need anything off the charts.
the pivots would allow me to flex on the park rats and kids wearing all black baggy clothes, but what gave me pause was that i read the pivots had a limited adjustment range (like if i got new boots with a significantly different BSL). don't think there is a bad choice between the pivots and attacks, though.

About 5 days late but finally got some pictures uploaded from the CO trip.
It was cool flying right over DIA on a 777, got a nice picture of the airport
Not too many better things than seeing the sunset over the rockies
Day 1 we had a beautiful morning at Breck
Highest lift in north america
Day 2 A Basin had 2 inches of snow but was skiing like 4"
Montezuma bowl at A basin
Day 3 and 4 at Copper was nice and sunny, freaking cold in the mornings though
I'm headed out to Mt. Bachelor this coming week and skiing Fri, Sat, Sun. One, I'll meet you out there. I have a friend that has never snowboarded but is going to try renting a board and going to the bunny slope for a day. He's been looking up videos, but could probably use some pointers if you know anyone willing to help. Will find a time you're on here and we can exchange emails.

Nice pics. I won't get to Colorado until April this year. Looking forward to it!

I taught my wife. It'll be hard to learn in a day. But 3 days is enough to get through blues and into a few blacks.
It just takes some time to get the muscle memory down for edge pressure.
Easiest summary is to not be afraid (as hard as that is to do).
When initiating a turn, let it go down the fall line a bit and get some speed, then initiate the turn. Don't try to go from edge to edge right away.
After the first day, blues are easier to ride than greens (because you carry a bit more speed and the momentum gives you some more control).
Learn to fall correctly.
Get them some wrist guards so they don't break a wrist. And butt pads to ease the learning process.
You will fall. It's just part of it. But it's worth it.

Second weekend of march where would people here go- WA (Crystal, Snoqualmie, Alpental), Montana (Big Sky), or UT (Brighton, Solitude, Alta, and Snowbird)? Already been to crystal and snoqualmie this season before they got a ton of snow, but not opposed to going back
Big sky looks to be the most for a hotel/housing, WA the cheapest flights, UT in the middle
