Crystal is such an underrated mountain, great terrian and the views on a bluebird day are spectacular.

Does anyone have recommendations on non-ski activities around Taos? I skied once 20 years ago, wife isn’t interested in skiing, and 12 year old may/may not want to. I’m thinking snowmobiling and tubing but not sure what else they have to do in the area. Heading up week of Mardi Gras.

Eat at Ranchos Plaza Grill. I am zero help with anything else there. Coming from Colorado, I find that mtn small and the town scuzzy. Love Ranchos Plaza Grill though, get the red chili.

Another week of snow and cold, with a potentially good storm to finish.

Then the pattern is gonna shift to favor cold and snow in the east. this isnt going to shut the door completely on snow, just gonna get more sun than snow.

Looking toward New Years for a flip back.

Hope this happens. Was planning on Keystone on 12/15 but only like 10% is open at the moment. They've been left out of every good storm

This week should help Keystone.

Copper and Vail have had the opposite luck so far. Some surprise 6"+ storms.

Breck has about 25% open, which makes sense. The tenmile range has been the good spot thus far.

Vail looks to be in great shape, I am definitely making the drive one day. Just didn't want it to be all 3

I do have a feeling a bunch of Keystone will be opening soon. They have been making a lot of snow on North peak.

I dont know how they havent opened more at this point, even missing the higher end totals to the west.

Snowmaking has been 24/7 with these cold temps, so yeah, you ought to be fine with a day at Keystone.

Abasin is shocking (didnt realize it was that low) but given Keystone, I guess theyve been in a bad spot.

Bc yeah, everything at Copper but the very far east and the back bowls could be open at this point.

A-Basin is still waiting for the Lenawee lift to be completed which has probably delayed things more than normal.

Headed to Keystone the week before Mardi Gras with my 9 yr old son for the first time. We have skied Steamboat for the past three years, so glad to be going somewhere different.
Are the bowls worth the hike or cat ride?

Someone else here could prob answer this better than me. I’ve been to keystone once and I pretty much stick to blues.

Short answer, no. The hike to terrain is supposed to be lift serviced soon but Keystone jacked up some special tundra during the install and the forest service stopped the job. Idk if it’s back on track yet. Regardless they released the would be trail map for the bowl and it’s all blues. Check Fat Map for detailed descriptions.

My keystone recs: Timberwolf and Glades. For Timberwolf, when you see people going through the rope gate to the bowls, stay along the inside of that rope and ride it all the way down. Glades is on the map but doesn’t get a lot of pressure for whatever reason so it holds stashes later in the day. Theses a decent amount of deadfall in there so be careful. Wolverine is also good if it’s fresh. Jackwacker is the best run on the front side.

A basin looks deep based on their post this morning. You just have to earn your turns.

I mean, there was low vis with the snow.

Should have taken a picture on the last run of the day. 1'-1.5' of virgin powder.
