I love spring skiing. Usually less crowded (even on weekends), easier to turn in the afternoons, and getting that goggle tan

Just got back from 5 days at Beaver Creek with the wife and kids. Stayed at The Osprey which was decent but the ski in ski out aspect made it really nice. Also used the ski valet to deliver all our equipment. Weather was pretty warm and it was pretty crowded, especially Monday. Seems like they are pretty done with Covid. Only one store in the village asked us to put on masks.

good to hear, especially the covid part. Was it overly crowded the whole time you were there? President's Day always bring a crowd in my experience. Headed to Beaver in a few weeks, snow was good?

President’s Day was definitely the most crowded but there were plenty of people everyday. There were a crazy amount of ski schools going on it seemed like……and at all the areas we like. Ski schools were going on at Hay Meadow, Red Buffalo, and McCoy Park.

Temp got in the 40s two days we were there and it got a little slushy. Temp dropped and they were expecting a foot of snow the day we left.

Can any of you baws comment on the mask/covidiot situation out in Colorado currently? Hoping I don't have the annoying attendants at the lifts yelling at me to pull my neck gaitor up only to pull it back down on the gondola.

There is only mask requirements for inside seating at vailed owned restaurants. Even restaurants in town aren’t requiring. No masks in lift lines or anywhere else. They say masks are required on gondolas but they’re not enforcing it at all. I wasn’t told one time to put on a mask or pull up my gaiter.

ETA: actually I’m not even sure about masks in vail restaurants. I was confusing it with proof of vaccination. If you avoid vail restaurants then it’s like covid doesn’t even exist.

Not Colorado but Utah has been great as far as masks/Covid stuff goes. Been in park city four days. Haven’t had a mask on since we left the airport and almost no one I’ve seen has either. Even went to Jazz game in SLC Friday and didn’t have to wear one (although on my ticket it said vax card required ). It’s been great. Snow over here could be better but still a ton of chairs/runs open . First time skiing here and I love it. The convenience to SLC airport is hard to beat. Highly recommend staying at Westgate in the canyons. Cheap ski in -ski out and free lockers and ski valet is a big plus.

Snowbasin and Sun Valley are moving from Epic to the Ikon pass in 2022-23. Chamonix in France is also coming to Ikon as well.

And rightfully so. The mess they created at Stevens pass here in WA is why I'm not renewing epic next year

Yeah, safe to say I will be going with full Ikon again next season. Looking forward to hitting Snowbasin, might do two Utah trips next season.

Same. Mammoth, Killington, and Copper all this season and had great experiences. Going to try Austria next year.

No mask mandates anymore, except on the buses in my county (Summit). You won’t get yelled at in the lift line. The only mandate is at on mountain restaurants owned by Vailresorts. You don’t have to where a mask, but you have to show proof at vaccine. The only other place I’ve been that’s the same way, is Ball arena for Nuggets or Avalanche games. No mask required anymore, but proof of Vax is required. And the people checking don’t look very hard. My brother got in this past Sunday with a fake vaccine card on his phone.

So just read the update for crystal mountain here in WA. They're planning a bunch of upgrades and passing on the costs to the skiers. The full iKon pass ($799) will now only be good for 7 days next season. They want people to buy a Legends pass for $1599 for unlimited skiing, a Legends + iKon pass for $1899, and to top it off a parking pass for $400. I'm pissed, not spending an extra $1100 a season to just ski Crystal. And with all the Stevens pass issues above it's even more of a mess with Epic

Epic is going to have a tough time recovering from the operational missteps this season. Can they do the right thing and overcorrect in one year without sinking the stock price? Doubt it. I think the Epic product is going to change greatly at the current price point. I bet Keystone, Breck, and Heavenly will be the local passes with just a few days of access at the premium spots and more Saturday restrictions. I also think ideas like pricing differentials for local zip codes will come about. That will put a bunch of visitor pressure on WP and Copper so Alterra will also have to adjust as well. The end result is going to be a much higher cost per day all around.

I’m going full Ikon next year as well. I have both local passes but realize that I need access during the blackout dates as I don’t want to spend extended trips at Keystone or WP. I certainly use my Epic pass well past the break even point, but I think putting those dollars towards a better Ikon experience is the proper route. I may buy a few Epic single day passes just to have the flexibility as I really like Beaver Creek, Vail, and CB. I’ve even thought about Monarch passes with the thought of easy weekend trips to Salida.

Eta:
ETA2: According to a skimag article, the ikon kid passes are only $20 more to go from base to full (which seems too good to be true) and $260 for adults for full access/no blackouts.

I saw that, Seattle needs more competition and more resorts. I loved skiing Crystal but the resort was definitely being neglected from an infrastructure standpoint. Sad that they are passing it on to the skiers. If you spend that much, you should be getting free parking.

In my opinion skiing costs have jumped the shark.

The juice just isn’t worth the squeeze anymore.

Tips up!

Did Keystone yesterday and doing Breck today.

Keystone was perfect. A little warm, but the conditions weren’t bad. Mainly, nobody on the mountain. Skied into the lift line and immediately got on.

Breck is crowded today and a little icy. All of the lifts are 10 minute minimum waits. Not worth it IMO.
