For those of you coming to PC for Mardi Gras, i went on Saturday and it was shite. Very icy and crowded, granted it was a holiday weekend. There's been no snow up here but we are finally getting some today so maybe it'll be better. I went to snowbasin and it was 1000x better. They haven't been getting snow either but they're at least grooming and must have the snowmakers on at night unlike PC.

How are they for snow prior to this storm?
Before the storms this week it was pretty low tide, things are better now but really 1-2 feet away from being normal for this time of year.

Coming in on March 3rd. PC has been terrible for the last 40 days or so, so hopefully things will pick up here in the next couple of weeks.

Snow was really good at Big Sky today, hit a lot of the same tree runs off Lone Pine that I skied yesterday but of course today they were powder filled. Skied off challenger as well, even late in the day it was still skiing well...soft bumps...
I did watch a few skiers go into rock fields up on challenger, if the terrian up there looks too good there is probably a reason for it. Skied a fun double black off of lone tree...
Wanted to hit the tram today, was going to pay the premium but ski patrol came by powderseeker while I was waiting in line and said most of it was closed due to avalanche concerns. The only run open that I could ski was Liberty Bowl which is great but not worth $80.
What snow fell seemed kind of dense, good for the base but the forecast going forward seems underwhelming for Big Sky over the next week. At least I got into some powder on my last day.

Taking our first trip to Winter Park Thursday with 2 kids in tow. Just realizing we should have purchased lift tickets when we booked the trip in order to get a good deal. We need passes for one day (2/27) for 2 adults and 2 kids (8 years old). Does anyone know of where or how we can score discounted passes or would anyone like to share their “friends and family” discount (if that’s allowed without the pass holder being present)?

Ouch, yeah booking tickets in advance is the way to go. If I was around I'd let you use my friends and family discounts (only used 2 so far this season) but I do think the pass holder has to be present at the mountain for pickup

My wife (26, no pics) and I (29), decided we were going to go on a ski trip. I let her take care of all of the flights, hotels, and bookings because she likes to do all of that…mistake.
She chose to come to Jackson to ski because she wanted to go see the Tetons and see the herd of elk when we weren’t skiing, along with lots of shopping and good food. She booked us to stay and ski at Snow King Mountain. She didn’t read any reviews about the difficulty level of that mountain…she just saw pretty mountains and said get after it.
So, day 1 we did a 1/2 day ski lesson and learned the absolute basics. Our instructor kept us on the bunny hill with the magic carpet. She later informed us that Snow King had some of the toughest slopes for beginners, even the green trails, and that she wouldn’t suggest we try those seeing as we had only been skiing for roughly 3 hours ever. We spent the rest of the day on the bunny slope, just practicing controlling our speed, turning, stopping, etc.
Day 2, we did some research and drove over to Grand Targhee about an hour away. There was more to offer there for beginners. They had a bunny hill that was much steeper than Snow King’s. We hit it 3-4 times, then hopped on the ski lift and went to the top of the green mountain. We came down that mountain about 10 times or so throughout the day, coming down the various trails. We got our asses whipped a few times but started to get the hang of it towards the end. Had a fun time, and improved a lot. Park was very very busy. Decent lines between each ride on the lifts with it being a holiday weekend.
Day 3, it was our last day to have our rental gear. We didn’t want to make that drive back to Targhee (still staying at Snow King in Jackson). We decided to take the gondola up to the very very top of the mountain, to sight see more than anything, and found out that they had 2 more bunny hills with magic carpets, longer and steeper than the one at the base of the mountain they do the ski school on, so we rode those for a while. After an hour or so of that, we finally said screw it and decided that we were going down the damn mountain. We took off, trying to stay under control. Stayed on green slopes for most of it, but finished up by going down 2 blues. Made it back to the bottom in one piece.
I busted my arse real good one time on one of the blues, so my wife, after seeing that, chose to sit on her skis and sled down those.
All in all, we had an awesome time skiing, and 100% will be making future trips. Wish we woulda thought to look at TD first because now I see people saying that Jackson and Snow King are terrible places for beginners…oops.
Places we ate:
Pinky G’s Pizza - we have a thing that everywhere we go, we try the best rated pizza we can find online. This pizza was good, but nowhere near the pizza we got in New York, Boston, or any major northeast locations. It was a wood burning oven, good ingredients, a little slow, but it was very busy…no regrets, would go back.
Mary Piglets - very good Mexican / Texmex. Wife got quesadilla, I got some Spanish chicken breast with some type of cheese sauce. Was extremely good! Good service as well, very fast and good attentive servers. Definitely would go back.
Gun Barrel Steakhouse - typical steakhouse, though not as good as other places we have ate with those similar prices. Would not go back for that quality and prices. Service was good. Bread and sides were good. We got the filets and they were underwhelming.
Big Hole BBQ - this was my favorite food of the whole trip. We started off with burnt ends appetizer and they were incredible. Wife got brisket macaroni. She loved the macaroni but said brisket was kinda bland and too dry. I got 1/2 a chicken and 4 ribs, both were incredible. I couldn’t finish them, so ended up taking a place back to the room for lunch the next day. 100% recommend, would go back. Almost went back a couple nights later.

Storm delivered for Tahoe. Monday afternoon skiing was surprisingly good in the wind protected areas. This morning had people sending it off the fingers off of opening chair at Squaw/Palisades. Only hit bottom once from what I remember on first run off KT. Remainder of the day hit some bumps here & there but still a really solid day. Upper mountain opened first thing too which was gr8.
Unfortunately have to get some work in the rest of the week but looks like it’s going to stay pretty cold & light winds so conditions should be nice through the weekend.

Hate to read that about park city. Flying out Friday. Hope the terrain isn’t too bad.

Got some snow yesterday and it's lightly dusting right now. You might be able to find some decent runs. I'll be out there all weekend as well and will post if I find any powder

For Vail and Breckenridge seeing highs in the 40's with no snow for next week, (Mardi Gras). As a skiing novice does that mean it's going to suck in regards to skiing conditions.

Sounds like spring skiing to me. What are the low temps? Expect it to be icy in the mornings (try to find east facing runs) then soft in the afternoons when the sun warms up the snow

I got to believe it will be colder than that on the mountain. Anyone have any insight?

Mid-mountain highs for Breck...
2/24: 3
2/25: 10
2/26: 15
2/27: 32
2/28: 25
3/1: 29
3/2: 33
3/3: 36
3/4: 23
Vail would be just a bit warmer. Snow should be good up in the high alpine at Breck, likely will have some afternoon mashed potatoes at the base. Skiing should be fine.

Thought about eating at pinky g's but didn't. I did eat at Bubba's bbq, ribs were good but chicken was kind of meh. Miazga's was pretty good, kind of a hole in the wall place but my pasta was good. Wanted to try the pierogies but they were out. Cowboy coffee was solid for a quick bite to eat on the way out of town.
Had a great burger at Citzen 33 in Driggs, when I stayed out there out to ski Targhee.
I do agree Jackson is not a place for new skiers, lots of steep terrian and the conditions weren't the greatest either. Still can't believe how packed the lower lift was for beginner terrian at Jackson Hole, almost never see that. I have never skied Snow King but my hotel was right in front of it and it seemed steepish. Take the wife to Big Sky or Steamboat next time.
