Loveland, A Basin, Copper. A Basin has the hardest terrain.
I don't know if y'all have checked Copper lift prices this year, but Copper isn't the cheap option this year.
I second Loveland and A-Basin, depending on how good of a skier.

I always recommend Loveland! Even on epic or ikon I’d always go to Loveland 1-3 times a year. Great local mountain.

Alright - I need some advice from parents on this thread. Taos was our go to place for family ski trips but it looks like covid is still fricking up the ski school offerings, which used to be awesome for young kids but now don't start until age 6.
Anyone have another kids ski school they like? preferably drivable from DFW and not keystone/breck. Kids will be 4/6.
The closest non New Mexico resorts to DFW will be in Colorado.
I make the drive from DFW to Vail each time I go. I usually stay overnight in Amarillo and do the rest of the drive the next day. It's not too bad.
Have you looked into Beaver Creek?

I dunno, Loveland is the cheapest for sure but I snagged a couple 4 packs at Copper for my family for $250 each, with no blackout dates. That’s a steal at any Ikon resort not named A Basin. That’s only $50 more than Loveland. I got a 2 pack for my family at Winter Park for $180 that has multiple strings of blackout dates for crying out loud haha
Copper does have expensive season passes though

You have 3 days to ride/ski. You’re on a budget because you’ve booked other trips. You want somewhere easy to get to, that southwest flies for relatively cheap, all to keep costs down. You can leave on Wednesday and return Sunday. Don’t need a world class resort necessarily but want good snow on good runs with decent variety. Where do you go?
SLC is really the king of cheap skiing. You can get a room cheap in town and take the ski buses to the resorts. Lift tickets would probably be the biggest expence but would likely be less than the Colorado resorts.
If you want something more off the wall. Southweset flies into Bozeman, you could ski Bridger Bowl in Montana. Bozeman is a great ski town and Bridger is legit.

ahhh, that explains it.
Ive been looking at season passes at Copper.

Yeah, the season passes at individual resorts are brutal. Other than Loveland, they’re all virtually the same price as the Epic haha

I think WP was $579 for their adult pass and $729 for the base Ikon. Plus Ikon has a great kid discount. I believe Copper has a kids ski free with their adult passes.

Exactly, I don’ t know who is out here buying the WP individual pass. I get it more in Utah where everyone except PC and Solitude is limited on the mega passes.
Their prices in SLC are horrendous for season passes. I was taking a look and it’s ridiculous - Brighton is $1500 for a season pass + Ikon, I think Snowbird/Alta season pass is $2200 with Ikon. Wild!

Actually thinking the alps this year. Maybe Chamonix, maybe St. Moritz, maybe Zermatt, maybe Kitzbuhel - anyone have any experience? Kind of flying blind, but it’s on my bucket list. Done most of the US resorts, typically ski JH and Telluride if I have my druthers.

Well, Wolf Creek is opening Saturday, which means A Basin and Keystone are opening today or tomorrow. Let’s go!
Posted on 10/14/21 at 12:58 pm to TigerSaintInDallas
A Basin has a lot of snow. And so does Loveland.

Has anyone here skied at Park City in December or around Christmas time? I'll be there December 22-25 for my first time there, want to know if any of the hike to terrain or the double black terrain has a chance at being open
Did Vail last year December 22-25 and 90% of the back bowls were roped off due to lack of snow. Only part of the Sun Down/Sun Up Bowls were open

Same for me, planning to hit both Big Sky and Jackson up on the same roadtrip.

Doing my annual Breck trip and also doing a Park City trip a month later. Never been to Park City, so looking forward to that one for sure.

Just decided to book a short opening weekend for Breck. Checking that off the bucket list.
