Anyone have any advice on parking at Breck and Vail? Will be driving in from Silverthorne
Best lots?
Airport road lot and shuttle to peak 8 gondola in Breck worth it or too much of a PITA?
How early to have a good chance at a spot?
Anything else?

I just park at Lionshead Garage at Vail and pay the $30 a day, I think its worth it... yeah you can park on frontage roads or other places and take a shuttle but I did that once last year and it was bullshite since they were doing the COVID fear mongering shite and only allowing 25% capacity on the buses meaning it took forever to actually get onto a bus. I never even got on the bus and just ended up calling an Uber instead since I waited for 45 minutes and was still nowhere near close to getting on the bus.

Not sure if they are doing that this year but I just find it easier to park right there on site and not have to worry about lugging shite around or waiting for busses

I show up at 8:15am or so and have no problem getting a spot, but I only go mid week, maybe its different on weekends

Considering the gondola lot at Breck is now $20, $30 for indoor is a steal.

Anyone flown southwest out of Nola with an oversized ski/board bag? I just read that 62” is the max length and then it’s $75. My board bag is 68”. But I’m also reading that often they don’t check length just weight. Not a huge deal but just want to know what to expect.

We flew with a snowboard bag on SW out of Nola and they never measured it. Just asked me what it was, weighed it and took it.

We're going to Telluride the last week in Feb. How often do you go to justify buying your board? I have boots, but usually rent the board. Trying to weigh getting to ride exactly what i want, vs tech changing, and having to travel with it. I probably go every 2-3 yrs.

Note: Snow ski equipment will not be subject to excess size charges. However, excess weight charges may apply.

Your bag is fine as long as the weight is ok

Cool thanks everyone. Bag is at 43lbs. So I’m good. Heading to airport in 30 minutes for a long weekend at Breck and Vail!

Ill be honest, someone gave my daughter a board, boots, bindings and a bag. We never would have bought it. MAYBE the boots but thats it; the rest I think we will always rent unless we move somewhere where driving to/from the slopes is an option.

Honestly, he gave it to us as gift to sell so we could be ski gear but I don't even know what the thing is worth or how to ship it so we just bring it with us and use it for fun.

I would just rent.

Im looking into buying all my gear for next season but I should be either in Leadville or Logan, UT for all of next winter. So I intend to get a season pass and ski 20+ times in the season.

Every two to three years though, why bother storing and traveling with it?

I did the math a few years ago.
The board pays for itself quickly, but the boots/bindings is where the rental places keep themselves in business.

Here, I'll do it for you. Let's assume 4 days skiing with an off-day in the middle.

Demo snowboard: $71/day
Boots/Bindings: $3/day
Add damage waiver: $6/day
Total after tax: $451.

Snowboards on sale at evo.com (Sick boards):
Salomon Assassin $440, Yes Typo $450, Jones Mountain Twin $500, Ride Warpig $530, Arbor Coda Camber $580, My fave: Capita Mercury $600, Never summer proto Synth $620, Burton Custom Flying V $630
-- Above this, you get into like carbon fiber --
So, for $500 - $550, you can get a BRAND NEW board. at $71/day + $6/day waiver plus tax.
That's only 6 rental days. It's easily paid for in 2 trips.

Bindings can get out of hand quick, but we can ball park this around $225.
Boots start expensive and go up from there, $275 is like entry level... but that's fine for here.
$500 for boots/ bindings.
At $3 per day "add on" for rentals, that's 167 rental days.
But of course, you can't just rent the boots/bindings.

Then you have to add a bag - $140.
Fly it to and from your spot - $45x2 = $90 each trip
Get it tuned up once you get there - $40
All told, it's roughly $1200 of up front investment plus the $150 per trip shipping and maintenance fees.

It takes until rental day 15-17 for you to break even.
For most people, that's 5 years at 4 days per year.
Is your equipment gonna last that long? What about technology advancements? What if you damage it?

On The Other Hand.... If you already have the boots and bindings.
You can buy a new board every year for Free.

The simple answer is:
People that ski all the time save a ton of money owning their own equipment.
For the rest of us, it's a value assessment.

I bought my own gear this year. I plan on getting 10+ days a year. Plus my son and I are trying to snowboard all 50 states and I’ll need my own gear for the states without ski resorts. I also have had a bad experience with shite bindings and uncomfortable boots. I ordered 4 pairs of boots this year and sent back 3 when I found some that I like. It’s definitely not necessary and probably a little cost prohibitive but it was just a personal preference

I know I don't rent on the mountain, but my shop in Leadville will have you on a board for $35/day. That's with boots/bindings.

$71 a day would be unreal… I’ve never seen anyone pay above $35-38 a day for board/boot rental.

Yeah, $35 is for the premium board too. Can get on lesser equipment for $25-28 a day. I thought that seemed high, but like I said, I never actually rent at the mountain so I don't know the markup.

Sorry to change subjects...but is it ever going to snow again in Park City? It started out great in December, but definitely a lull in terms of storms.
