Models interesting this afternoon, mostly with the Euro going nuts (in line with the ensembles). 20" predicted in the next ten days for Leadville off tbe Euro.
This is certainly aggressive but loving the huge numbers being cranked out from now till the New Year.
Everyone gets the cold and snow that needs it.

The GFS looks like it hits all of the PNW and west over the next week. From Baker to Tahoe to Park City to Crested, I like seeing blue on the map. Everybody wins

This pattern is beautiful.
Without something like a global circulation change (MJO to a different phase) or a sudden stratospheric warming (SSW), a western trough in the winter can be self reinforcing.
All the snow lets things cool efficiently at night, and all those heights are showing you is temps, since cold air is denser the 500 mb level is lower.
Cold NW/Warm SE
Big clashes in between, with lows launching off the front range with each disturbance that rolls around the big trough that just sits out west. At this point, practically everything should be open by the start of the year.
ETA: I've got to stop checking the Euro, because its been showing ridiculous snow for a day now. I'd be talking feet in Twin Lakes over the next ten days, which is so ridiculous I can't translate what that would actually look like on the I70 mountains, much less the Sierra type totals that would cover the San Juans.
Really interested in how the high res models start coming in for our Festivus/Christmas Eve storm. I'll actually start talking about that one in particular tomorrow.
ETA2:
Looking at the Utah totals for the next ten days and
I'm talking Park City and Deer Valley getting around 60" by NYD. Even if that undershoots, will be a lot of snow to get some terrain open in the coming days.
First blast of snow comes on the 23rd, just in time for goldennugget and Lefty.
This isn't just one model either, I'm talking all of them have numbers that ridiculous.

Yep, we got lucky planning our trip. I'll be in PC this afternoon.

So it's looking like my plans to be in BrecK starting Monday and though Friday is looking golden? Did I get lucky?

Breck still doesn’t have much terrain open. Hopefully they can get more open with the upcoming snow but I wouldn’t say it’s enough snow to make a lot of terrain openings a sure thing, like Tahoe or Utah are going to get.

How many lifts/trails are open? I'll be skiing Friday for sure.

Its too bad youre not coming a week later.
Breck's position hasnt been beneficial with the wind directions thus far. We got two storms coming before you get here though, which I think will help a lot. Especially the first one, which should bring some good wet snow thats ideal for base building.
Youll get more snow while here too.

You're almost guaranteed to have better conditions than I did over the weekend. Looks like they have 49 trails open now but I know it's gonna start getting busy with the holiday approaching.

Jackson Hole opened Big Red yesterday.
Wondering if I'm gonna have the balls to send Corbet's.

being there for Thanksgiving and driving back and forth to Brighton every day, I have no sympathy for either of you

That being said, Brighton was awesome and don't think I would have got to experience it otherwise.

49. I've pretty much done all I can on the PC side. Way too crowded on the groomers. The mogul runs off MCconkeys are the only ones not crowded so I dod those twice each.. Seen way too many ski patrol sleds and collisions today
Trying to get over to the Canyon side. Pain in the arse since you have to take the bus.

I've literally wasted an hour already trying to get to Canyons

That sucks. Snow and Christmas Eve and Day skiing to come at least.

Got a trip planned to Tahoe on JAn 6th-10th. Hoping to see some snow falling.

We didn't even try to go to Canyons on our trip.

Almost went there. Heavenly was the cheapest trip by far.
Under $1500/pp for a week, all in minus meals.
