Yup, I always ski with a helmet. You never know who is coming down the mountain above you or if you lose control in some trees

There’s absolutely zero sign of this slowing down, so I wouldn’t anticipate a region that just went to red to crawl out of it soon.

I think they’ll end up shutting down.

Nothing short of a total lockdown will reduce case counts. They may not want to do that. But they’ve boxed themselves into doing it.

For the record, I don’t believe in the mask mandates, or lockdowns, I think they’re ineffective, counterproductive, and cruel. I believe we should do nothing, and let the virus run it’s course.

I’ve skied my entire life and I can maybe count on one hand the number of times I’ve skied without a helmet. It isn’t about experience, it’s about safety. Wear one.

Unlike masks, there is evidence that helmets do work.

10-4, Not renting them though. The ski rental place wanted $18/day for the helmets and $13/day for goggles. Buying both on Amazon.

Just an FYI

Under Colorado level red, Summit County has restricted short term term rentals to single household members only. Meaning, if you are renting with another family or family member who does not live with you in your current household, you will be violating the ordinance.

I honestly don’t even know how they’ll police that, and if try I can’t imagine it will go over well.

Friends used Ski Butler last season and had great things to say about the service.

Yes, absolutely wear a helmet. The difference between being knocked out cold and just having your bell rung is a small piece of foam. Plus you can’t mount a Go-Pro on your hair for the sick footie.

It’s an escalation crisis, no?

They introduce restriction a, cases continue to rise, so they introduce restriction b, but cases still increase.

Eventually you end up with a complete shut down.

Yeah we have our own goggles but will be buying helmets before our next trip. Cheaper than renting and rental helmets stink with other peoples sweat.

Anyone know what the restaurant situation in Park City is? As restrictive as Summit Co? Does the scenery pale in comparison to the mountains of Colorado? Is it icier? One of the main reasons we were planning Keystone is for the Colorado Rockies.

I am not sure about Park City, but when we went to Keystone a few years ago there really wasn't much to do in town anyways. Snake River Saloon was pretty overrated and there was just typical food type places at the base of the mountain.

I would keep your Keystone plans. The skiing was great there and the added bonus of free night skiing was really cool. Mardi Gras is a long way away so there is no telling what the restrictions will be then.

Would it be worthwhile to bring the family to one of these ski based resorts even if we don't ski yet? Or should I look elsewhere?
Kids are 1 and 2.5 and I just want a wintery snow type trip in February plus have a ton of points.

Park City and Utah skiing in general is fantastic. If Utah allows indoor dining, it’s less restrictive than Summit Co.

Utah is less liberal than Colorado so you may find less restrictions there. With that said, Summit Counties restrictions are a bit overboard at the moment.

You're not lying. I'm skiing in Summit Co today. This 12 year old girl hit a tree off a steep blue run. She's complaining that she can't breathe and crying pretty bad. I'm thinking broken rib and punctured lung. We finally flag down ski patrol. The dude comes up and stops at 10 foot and starts asking a bunch of questions like "have you had any flu-like symptoms?" "Have you been in close contact with someone who has tested positive?" She's crying and not answering the questions and the guy says "I can't come closer until you answer the questions" the whole time I'm thinking "wtf?? We have a serious medical emergency and you're delaying because of this BS covid hysteria" I was pretty pissed.

There's a call in # for you to report someone and they come and investigate. Definitely need to keep a low profile and keep your thoughts about it all to yourself in public. $5k and 18 months in jail is the maximum penalty for violations.
