I use a CamelBak Octane 10. My wife has an Octane 9. They're both great backpacks that hold a decent amount of stuff.

I’d say just about anything around the house will do for that. If that’s all you are carrying, I’d just drop that in a locker or in the trees.

I use a Dakine Heli 20L. It fits two 32oz Nagenes, insulated lunch bag, spare gloves, googles when not on the mountain, packs of foot/hand warmers, and a pair of 120cm skis to/from the car. The newer versions don’t have as many straps which is nice.

Lots of snow in Breckenridge today. Staying at main st station and skiing peak 8,9 from quicksilver chair. Lines aren't bad at all. First time ever to ski today and im really digging it.

Just noticed it doesn't get much talk in this thread, a lot of posts about Breck. You can find some deals, I stayed ski in/ski out for $500 4 nights during my last trip.

That said, I have my next trip planned going to Winter Park in a two weeks. Anyone have any tips/recommendations?

I use the Dakine Heli 20L as well. Fits my beacon, shovel, probe, water bottles, cliff bars, and my skis on the side. Any backpack will do to be honest. But if you are going uphill it is nice to have side straps for the skis. If you really want a ski backpack, and plan on no uphill, get a smaller 8-12L. I use mine all the time for non ski related things, I like the slim profile.

Winter Park

Great mountain but not shite to do at night. It’s a small town not close to anything. If you are looking for chill spot, WP and Fraser is it.

Learn the bus route.

WinterPark is one of my favorite summer destinations. Devil's Thumb Ranch is there, which alone, is an amazing place.

Heading to the mountains this week. A little annoyed kid's ski school isn't full day - but at least they are doing it so we have some freedom.

Sweet mountain but it’s a smaller mountain town. I like the vibe there. I always had a great time there. Dinner at Deno’s then head next door to the ditch for some drinks. Finish up at Ullrs for some rowdy time.

You can have a nice chill time there but also get rowdy(when covid allows).

I’m seeing that park city only has 19 out of 348 trails open. Is that accurate? Seems low for this far into the season but I don’t really know

Our ski resort in Colorado has about half of its trails closed so far due to lower than average snowfall. Wouldn’t surprise me if Utah has similar circumstances

Very dry winter for UT/CO so far. It better pick up or wildfires will be off the hook.

I drove Loveland Pass this Thursday. It was shocking how sparely covered even the high altitude sections sections were; the big bowl on the SE side of the peak had snow but also had a recent decently sized avalanche. The snow plow wall this time last year was as tall as the vehicle, it’s about 1’ now. Breck has no cover on their high alpine runs. Vail has managed to open a good amount and I’ve had several good days there so far this year. Winter Park and Berthoud Pass are looking better in the last week or so. The southern mountains are where I’d be looking if I were making plans for a CO trip.

My friend rode Snowbird last week and said it wasn’t worth a half day. It’s time to start shopping for my Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz bike I take it?

I found a GIANT bike ditched in an alley a few weeks ago. Best thing I’ve ever “found.”

We are in breck as well staying at beaver run. Wish I would have booked more things to do before I came. Pretty much any other extra curricular activity is booked up until early mid January.

Yeah. Frisco park is booked out. We booked axe throwing on new years eve. Mrs jkyle got me on the peak 8 super connect and was swearing they had green runs up there. Nope. All double black, black, and like one or two blue. Keep in mind yesterday was my first time ever to ski. It was pretty intense trying to ski down. Lol.

That’s hilarious. Yeah. You need to be by me at beaver run. Peak 9 is all green and a few blues.

We are. We're staying at main st station so its a short walk for us to the beaver run chair and quicksilver chair. We started to hop on the beaver run chair today. Been sticking to the quicksilver, a chair, and our one trip wayyyyy up on the peak 8 super connect. You're staying just a rocks throw away from us.

Yes. I put it off this summer due to the fires but it’s something I really want to get into.

I’ll keep an eye out in my alley for a wayward bike needing to be rehomed.

I feel like this inevitably happens to all beginners, and ultimately you are better for it. Good job getting down in one piece

I lost all psych to ski after getting skunked on snow in Japan last year, but alas, I make my return to the slopes tomorrow at A Basin
