Smith Rock, Painted Hills, Crater Lake, Toketee Falls. None of that is in Bend, but within an hour or so. I'm assuming you will have a car.

We spend a couple weeks in Bend every summer. Can't beat it. One of the best spots in the US.

Smith Rock
Tumalo Falls
Go rafting on the Deschutes
Newberry Crater/Paulina Lake/Big Obsidian Flow,
Mountain bike at Phil's Trails (plenty of beginner friendly trails)
In the summer there is a great concert series at the amphitheater
Bachelor ski resort is open until the end of May

Best places to eat:
Breakfast:
Jackson's Corner (high recommend)
The Lemon Tree
Thump Coffee
Back Porch Coffee
Sparrow Baking

Lunch/Dinner:
BOSA
El Sancho
South Bend (In Sunriver)

Breweries:
Bend Brewering (Best location right on the river)
Crux
You can walk up and down Galveston St on the west side and hit a bunch of breweries at once and tons of good food spots (Sunriver Brewing, 10 Barrel, Boss Rambler)

^^^what he said. My best baw and godchild live in Bend. It’s a gorgeous place to visit. This was Smith Rock (took me about an hour to drive to, but an easy hour).

This was Tumalo Falls. Incredible scenery.

I highly recommend Crux Fermentation Project as a place to decompress after at the end of the day. Beautiful outdoor area to watch the sunset over the mountains to the west, eat food from some food trucks, play corn hole, and relax in some Adirondack chairs while listening to live music. Great beer, too.

Alot of great food in the breweries, including the original Deschutes Brewing location.

I like floating the Deschutes through town. You can rent an innertube for the day and float (about two hours) to the pick up point where they pick you up and bring you back to your starting point, where you can do it again, or turn your innertube in.

Crater Lake, Smith Rock, Cove Palisades, and Sun River are all fantastic day trips. Crater Lake is a bucket list type of trip, if you have the time, but Smith Rock and Cove Palisades are closer.

Did some SUP and camping in that area. You can see straight down 15-20’ in that water. Amazing.

It’s 26 miles one way on a highway. Pick up the speed tourist!

Pray tell, when will this visit occur?

Bend is a year round tourist town with year round activities.

Planning for ~8 nights in August or September

Backbone of my Oregon trip will be:

Eugene (2 days)
Roseburg (5 days)-- staying with a friend who lives here. From Roseburg will venture off to Crater Lake, Oregon Coast, rainforest along coast, dune buggies on Pacific coastline, other relevant state parks for hiking)
Bend (2 days) - Ive always heard good things about Bend thus asking for suggestions from the board from those who have been here.

Fly home from Eugene

Western Oregon is incredible
Crater lake will blow your mind

If you have the time don’t miss newberry volcanic monument. We spent half a day there and could have stayed all day. Bend is cool I need to give it another shot though we didn’t spend much time there.

2 days at crater lake will get it done. Stay at the lodge or the cabins. Take a ticketed boat tour out to wizard island and hike the volcano cone, east top 5 hike I’ve ever done

You absolutely CANNOT miss a McMenamin’s experience.

McMenamin’s

Also, Wild Rose Thai. Easily the best Thai in Bend.

Eugene (2 days)

If you have to be there, okay. There is nothing in Eugene that excites me. I have a daughter who graduated from there.

From Roseburg, you can go over to the coast along the Siuslaw River to Florence. Go North towards Heceta Beach (check out the lighthouse and bridge) and the Dunes.

You can also go south towards Coos Bay and Bandon. Beautiful scenery, and if you golf, you are already aware of Bandon and Pacific Dunes...

I personally, would spend a couple of nights in Bend and go south to Crater Lake for a full day, and then hit up Smith Rock/Cove Palisades on another day. That would leave the evenings to do stuff in Bend - restaurants, live entertainment, music, shopping, whatever...

Dress warmly (have a hoody ready) when going to the Oregon Coast. It can be chilly any time of the year.

Haha funny you should mention that. I was staying at my buddy’s house close to Pilot Butte, but had to stop and get him a chicken biscuit and drop off at his job site on my way through Redmond. It definitely stalled my time efficiency. But I get to stay at his house for free and use his truck while he is working, so it seems a fair trade.
