Looking at maybe switching from DirecTV to YouTube TV...what is the general consensus on this? Wife also wants to get rid of HBO, but I'm fighting that.

YouTube TV works great, they just went through a price hike. It's my favorite live streaming service that I've tried, and I've tried them all.

I've had it for a few years now. It's fine but it's almost as expensive as cable now. No real financial reason to switch anymore. It was $35 when we joined. It's $65 now.
If you can bundle your internet with other services it's probably cheaper just to stay with cable these days. We've gone full circle

I like the idea of no box fees, etc. and unlimited DVR

you havent priced out direct lately have you? I was paying 175 for direct alone when I switched.
I was able to get Youtubetv, att gigebyte internet, the disney/espn/hulu bundle, netflix for less than what i was paying for direct. Sure as a new customer Dtv will give you a good deal but once you have been there a while, even calling retentions doesnt get you much.
local suddenlink where I am would need to get the highest pacakage to get the same channels I get with YT would cost me about 185-200 when you add in all the TVs.
in the end YT has gotten a lot more and I really wish it was a la carte but its still the best deal.

Not direct TV. I've never had satellite, but I can get a cable/internet budle cheaper from Cox now than I'm paying separately for YTTV and internet

i can through suddenlink also but its shitty internet and shitty channel selection when compared to what i get with YT and att fiber.

I have direct TV and it’s ok I guess. I don’t really know much about it but I’ve never had to do anything with it, they give me free stuff all the time, if I call once a year they’ll lower my bill a bit, and it has never stopped working during a storm.

Had DTV for 18 years
Paid $180/month for DTV and $110 for Comcast internet
Dropped DTV and got YTTV and saved $115/month

Mine is the same internet. I can do it even cheaper if I go with AT&T fiber, cable and our phones.
Streaming live TV sounded great in the beginning, but for most of us, it's no better than what we had before now.

The bundle pricing only stays lower for a year or so. I had Cox and it was initially cheap but the increases over the past couple years were ridiculous. $135-> $175->$210 for internet and cable. Dropped the cable for YT TV and I’m back to $135 with the same speed internet. Haven’t missed cable one bit.

essentially I was exactly as above.
When i build the new house I may go to suddenlink, its about the same price and about the same speed and it is better for flipping between channels during football season.

YouTubetv is fine. If $70 a month, so it’s pretty close to a 1-2 year contract price, which will go up after. HBO is like $10-15 more a month.

Exactly. YouTubeTV is fine. No complaints. It's just not any cheaper than a cable bundle now so you really aren't gaining anything financially other than no contract.
