With the prices going up again I am looking for cheaper options. I need something that I can schedule recordings in advance plus it needs to be easy to operate for my wife.

Is YouTube TV a good replacement for Dish?

Will I also be able to use it on trips in my RV if I have internet service?

As long as you have reliable download speeds it's great. I'm able to use it on my smartphone as well, so I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use it on an RV hooked into WiFi.

Is there a guide to look ahead for scheduling recordings?

Yes. It's very intuitive. You can schedule shows/series very easily.

For example, you can search for a particular show and add it to your recording list or you can just scan ahead and grab a particular episode.

Probably the best cloud based DVR available.

There will be a bit of a learning curve to use it. The channels aren't laid out like Dish where kids are one group of channel numbers, news another, sports another. This makes the guide a bit of a bit of a mess for those used to channel numbers but you can change the order on a computer so your favorite channels are on the top. If you plan on using it for RV trips, YoutubeTV is basically your only choice b/c it will change your location temporarily for you, with Hulu live you must call them every time you move. DVR is stupid easy. Overall I like it, my mother can figure it out but I do wish the guide was more similar to that of FrndlyTV so it would resemble a more classic look.

Yes but just search whatever you want and record all episodes. It’s unlimited cloud storage.

But how good is that when compared to physical DVR? My DirecTV DVR is 10+ years old, and is still lightning fast. The jump forward and jump back buttons are extremely utile and basically instantaneous. How much of that functionality is lost by going cloud?

Just give it a try. You can cancel at any time. It's like a 30 day free trial.

You can sign up for a free trial (currently 14 days, I think) if you've never signed up before. We were convinced long before the trial was over that we were going to ditch Cox for Rev internet and TYYV.
One of the smartest tech moves I've made.

Is there a physical remote you can get or can you only use phones?

Do you have a smart tv? If not, you'll need a dedicated box like a Roku to access the Youtube TV app.

If you have a smart tv, you can use the TV's remote to access the app. If not, you'll need something like the aforementioned, Roku to access it.

That will work. I mean you can download the app right now if you want to. As long as you have good internet, YouTube TV is great in my opinion. The only thing is that if you aren't very tech savvy, it will take some getting used to to learn the interface, because it is different than cable. You won't have numbered channels, but the guide is completely customizable so you can put channels in whatever order you want and hide channels that you do not watch. I would just watch some YouTube videos if you really can't figure it out.

The main tv has Roku setup. The tv in the bedroom is a smart tv. It is just myself and my wife.

I think you'll be happy with it. It's a very good alternative to Dish.

YouTube TV no doubt. Satellite programming is a thing of the past. As long as you have a good WiFi signal, you can watch YouTube TV anywhere. No boxes, watch on the go, watch anywhere you go in the states, set up your own channel lineup, and unlimited DVR recordings. The only draw back to YouTube TV is some channels that are common to other streaming and satellite services, like A&E, are not available and if you like watching the Astros, you can’t get it with YouTube TV because YouTube TV doesn’t have Bally sports channel.

I am checking to see what channels that we watch are not on YouTube TV. One of them is the Cooking channel which my wife watches a lot. I will A&E to that list. I will be pairing this with Tablo.

I had Directv for 18 years, and changed last year to YouTubeTV. Should have switched years ago.
