frick Yelp. It's a scumbag operation. Our business constantly watches 5 star reviews get hidden once we stopped advertising with them. They never get rid of bullshite reviews we report to them either.
Because they pick and choose which reviews to show. As someone else said, you'd have to have someone click a small link at the bottom that says "not recommended" or whatever. And this is on a desktop. Try to find that link on mobile. Essentially, they are hiding a ton of our 5-star ratings because of their "algorithm".
Again, frick Yelp.

I’m not sure why it would be illegal for a private business to publish reviews of a restaurant.

And, again, why should that be illegal? Plenty of media outlets choose to withhold relevant details that are both positive and negative.

Yeah, but most people don't do that. I certainly don't.

Extortion charges would be a fun start.

They're falsely representing themselves as an objective site for customer experiences.
If they came right out and said "we rig ratings to favor our advertisers" they'd be honest but everyone would know not to look at their site.

Start an advertising site ranking site, and charge Yelp $250,000/y to post their positive reviews.

Something doesn't add up here. This is either an incomplete or inaccurate description of what has transpired.
Ehh I buy it, you see it on google too. They don’t have a lot of reviews but one person and some friends give you a few 1 stars, only one person gave you a 5 and now it looks like you have a really shitty place because Karen was in her period and got her friends to trash talk your place they have never been to.

Your friend the owner should have been a grown up and reached out to those 1 and 2 star reviews and asked if he could make it right…
