XBox 360 vs PlayStation for my 11 year old son

My son is turning 11 next month and is wanting one of the above (not both). He has a Switch currently for about 2 years, but seems to play on it less.
Most of his friends have either of the above. Thanks in advance..

Really need to find out what system his closest friends game on, may be best to ask your son. May have to put on your detective hat and do some sleuthing if you want to keep it a surprise. If you do go XBox, spend the extra money and get the Series X

Most games are cross platform these days, meaning you can have a computer, Xbox, or Playstation and all play the same game together.
Like others have said, look into what game or games he plans on playing and see what his friends have.
If you go Xbox, do not buy the cheap one. The hard drive fills up super fast.

I agree with people saying Xbox series X. Got one for kiddo a few months ago and he loves it.

Definitely not the Xbox 360. Probably over a decade old platform. At that age, most kids have the Xbox. Get the cheap version, XBox Series S.

To hear my kids talk, it's the opposite. All of their friends have the PS5.
Another vote for figuring out what his buddies want or have.
Reason being, much easier/possible to pay games together on the same system.

A nice setup to add is a keyboard/ mouse combo if he plays FPS.
