Why does Apple insist on making the podcast app worse with each iteration?

Seriously, this new design is bad. Where can I view my queue now? Why did they make it to where you need to go further into menus to add a podcast to the queue? And the "listen now" tab seems to make no sense. Why does a podcast from 2016 show before one that released this week?

They fricked it up bad. It is a really confusing set up. It wasn’t anything special before but at least it made a little sense.

Yeah, it's bad enough I'm thinking of switching. They lump all of your episodes together instead of letting you see the individual episodes you have. Some mornings there are new episodes queued up but I have to Cancel Download and then restart the download to make it happen immediately before I leave my home wifi. They took away the cancel download option, now there's just a delete. WTF Apple?

I like and use Overcast. I used Instacast before that, but they shut down.

With previous iterations of the app, people would complain, and I would always ask what the problem was and what 3rd party apps did that was so better. I can't ask that anymore. The newest iteration of the app is frickING GARBAGE.

Same here. I only listen to a handful, and Mike Rowe mentioned another company, I think it was Tune In, that he was promoting for people to listen to his show on. He's not a big fan of Apple when it comes to their podcasting app.

Pocket Casts is great on Android. Think they have an iOS app as well.

I use castbox it's pretty good. You can stream or download and it's free. It doesn't do anything special but if you want an easy to use podcast app I'd recommend it.

It’s been a piece of crap for years. For a company that can be so smart, they have been idiotic on this app.
I got iCatcher for about $5 several years ago and never looked back.

I just need a Podcast app that will download new episodes automatically from streams to which I've subscribed, delete them once I've listened to them, and allow me to listen to them in an oldest to newest order. That's it.

I've tried out the Overcast app that colorchangintiger suggested and it does most of what you're asking for. It has 2 ways to view your podcasts. Look at all episodes of a single podcast individually and you can sort by oldest or newest. The 2nd way is it creates a playlist of all of your unplayed episodes. This unfortunately is grouped by podcast and sorted newest to old within that group. I wish they would let you sort that playlist from newest to oldest and not group by podcast.

If you go to the Playlist and hit Edit then Edit Playlist... you can change the sort order between:
Oldest to Newest
Oldest to Newest by Podcast
Newest to Oldest
Newest to Oldest by Podcast

Now my only issue is the Apple Podcast app showing up on the lock screen when my phone connects to my car. Hopefully when I unsubscribe to everything in the Apple app that will go away.

I actually deleted Overcasts and forced myself to try the new podcasts app. It is so bad. I regret that decision so much. Already back to overcast. It is as if they all got in a board room, white-boarded the most intuitive way to display podcasts, and decided to do the exact opposite.
