Nah, clearly Jony Ive stole his Cydia theme when they came out with iOS 7.

Great things? They made a terrible, boring OS usable. Great things is an understatement.

Until Apple started ripping them off and they all left for Android.

Just another reason among many as to why Apple sucks and no one with tech knowledge owns one anymore.

I haven't had an iPhone since 2010, so no. And there were no girl developers back then, so I doubt they ripped off that girly design from Cydia.

Oh, I see why you believe that Apple owes you something. You're delusional.

Tens of millions of people bought iPhones because they were itching to hack their phones and download SB Settings and whatever theme you created

And good job ignoring the fact that Apple didn't rip off you or any other hacker that built stuff on top of Apples OS. They didn't ask you to. In fact, they told you not to.

And while I'll admit that the jailbreak community did some great work, much of what was in Cydia was unpolished, glitchy garbage. Or pirated. So don't pat yourself on that back too much while you fantasize.

Why are you laughing at your own comment? Or do you really not know that jailbreak community is/was actually 10+ million strong? Lol whoops.

In early 2013 when the jailbreak released, 7 million iPhones were jailbroken in 4 days.

Jailbreaking is legal. No one asked for anything not sure where you get that from. Google welcomes it, Apple doesn't. Apple steals ideas from it, Google hires you for it.

You seem very very uneducated on such things, I'm going to guess you own an iPhone.

Yeah sure. OT baller here ladies and gentlemen!

We get it. You wanted to be a software engineer for Apple and they shite canned your "amazing" resume. It's OK. We won't judge.

Compared to how many hundereds of millions of iPhones in use by 2013?

lol whoops

But I'm sure that other 97-98% of iPhone users just doesn't know what they're missing AMARITE

No one said it wasn't. Reading comprehension much?

What? No more witty remarks about how much you know and how little I know?

Aw...don't get your feelings all hurt now. I'm enjoying dismantling you're terrible posts.

Well that was evident a long, long time ago. Now you've just went off the deep end and can't help yourself. Jimmies rustled to the maximum. You have a good night.

Pretty much. There were a few great apps and lots of great ideas that were fricking terrible in execution.

And plenty of people did jailbreak, the majority of them looking to change their iPhone's fonts to pink comic sans.

I stopped jailbreaking in the iOS 5 days, at that point there was nothing left for me to care about that wasn't already in the OS -- and done better -- by Apple.

Back then my primary purpose of jailbreaking was to tether.

And most of the iOS5 updates weren't original ideas. They were stolen from the jailbreak community or Android.

It's funny to me that the jailbreak community is discredited by many, but Apple didn't have a problem with using those ideas for its primary upgrades in iOS4 and 5. Why did it take Apple so long to allow apps to be added to folders or more than 4 docked apps at the bottom or wallpaper? All were jailbreak features LONG before Apple stole them.

the difference is Google embraces these changes and works with the developer to polish these changes. Apple talks about their EULA, fights tooth and nail with the community, then adopts those same updates in iOS 2 versions later.

Another reason why Apples market share continues to fall.

And then give no credit to the developer they just completely ripped off. Such a pathetic fricking company.

Exactly why I left years ago with so many others that worked in the jailbreak scene, I helped make complete themes for cydia with many others, and when Apple ran out of new ideas and started stealing jailbreak developers work and calling it their own, bye douchebags.

I couldn't agree with this more. They have very little respect for the developers holding up their platform, and it's pretty infuriating. I went all in on hardware and licenses for several years to develop native iOS/OS X software. Once a problem arose, I was quick to let it go, but once it started to affect my workflow, I had to approach them. I've never been talked down to by so many people in my life. The worst part is that multiple times I was spot on on what the issue was when they basically ignored me. There's not much Apple can do about a few bad customer service people, right? Following the first set of issues, there was a few months of calm followed by complete hardware failure (MBP's GPU died). On their forums, there was a god damned 250+ page thread full of users who experienced the same exact failure. Apple had the nerve to quote me $710 to fix a two year old machine. Not only that, but the run around I received throughout the whole situation ("We haven't had any reports of that issue!") really left a bad taste in my mouth. At least when Jobs was still there, there was someone backing up the smug bullshite. The past few years have been pretty rough.

While I'm pretty bitter, I really think that Apple has just become too enamored with Apple. They don't seem to realize that both Google and Microsoft are pushing hard to take every single customer they can. The saddest part is that it was pretty nice to have a Unix machine with widespread compatibility.

?
Mac sales are booming. Quarter after quarter of sustained growth. Up 20% from 2013, while PC sales are down 20%.

Microsoft has the built in advantage of being pre sold on nearly every PC made, and sales are declining. Sounds like Microsoft better work a lot harder.
quote:

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Apple (AAPL - Get Report) continues to outpace the rest of the PC market, as price cuts for the MacBook Air earlier this year helped boost global PC shipments above 80 million for the first time last year, even amid a declining market. The big winner this holiday season was Apple, as research firm IDC said it posted a 7.1% market share for a gain of nearly 19% over its 2013 numbers. All other manufacturers were able to post a combined 32.2% share which was down from their 39.6% share one year ago for a decline of nearly 21%. Globally, Lenovo lead the way with shipment of more than 16 million units for a 19.9% worldwide market share and 5% growth over 2013 results. HP was a strong second with just under 16 million units for a 19.7% share and a growth rate of 15.1% year over year. Dell was third with a 13.5% market share (a gain of 8.5% year-over-year) and Acer garnered 7.7% of the market for a 3.2% year over year gain.

ETA: and they packed new features into Yosemite. Anyone thinking Apple is just resting on its Laurels is really ignorant of what they are actually doing.

While hardware is doing great, the software is not in a great place whatsoever. It's no secret that the quality of Apple's software has gone downhill over the past few years, and as I said before, it's all resulting in Apple's marketing taking precedence over the quality of software they're putting out. Frankly, no team of engineers, no matter how talented they may be, can keep up with the marketing blitz that Apple is constantly running. Almost every one of Apple's in-house apps, from Safari a few years back to Mail recently, have suffered from outrageous resource usage and insane memory leaks that noticeably bog down your system. At one point around the time of the major Safari leak in Mountain Lion, I recall Safari taking up 11.7GB out of 16GB or RAM. I mean, yeah, UNIX goes about paging differently from Windows, but I highly doubt that that amount of resource consumption was by design. In fact, I'm positive that it wasn't. Releasing consistently broken and resource-hogging software by a company of the "prestige" of Apple should by unacceptable. As lovely as Yosemite is, it also was met with a loud cry of the people whose MacBooks were now crawling along. It's no secret that Apple's dropping the ball either on their software. Earlier this month, several people high up in the industry criticized Apple for their recent software quality. Fanboy or not, there's no denying that there's been a lot of trouble with build quality lately. People point to Yosemite as evidence of the contrary, but Yosemite's triumphs were a result of Apple lifting the curtain and actually putting it in the hands of users.

At this point, Apple is in an easy position. With Windows 8's bad reputation, users who held on to XP for dear life having to choose between relearning Windows or trying out OS X are going to be more open to switching. Not to mention, the people with Windows 7 and others with older versions of Windows simply won't buy a new Windows 8.1 PC with Windows 10 right around the corner. The conditions were right for Apple to absolutely kill it in 2014, which is impressive considering that people just aren't being computers as much these days. This year, however, I think will be more of an accurate indication of where everyone stands. With Microsoft and OEMS lining up for a big push, we could see a really competitive marketplace. Honestly, I'm excited for it. I'd rather all of the companies be innovating and going all out than get another few centimeters in screen real estate.
