Ready to upgrade from my iPhone 6, how long after the new iPhone announcements can you usually order the phone ? Is the best way to order a new one online (through at&t or Apple) or going to the Apple store?

Let the new ones come out and get the X.

You’ll know in about 14 hours

If you want to preorder, the best way is to use the Apple store app on your phone. Have a card in Apple Pay already set up. Takes two minutes.

Friday is probably the day when preorders start.

Order it from Apple or your carrier and have it shipped to your work. I ordered one a few years back and it required a signature. They held it at the post office and I had to go pick it up. Since then I just ship to work so someone can sign for it.

We'll know for sure in a couple hours though.

My phone carrier is AT&T, looking at pricing, I see buying it in full from Apple is the same price as doing 24 monthly payments in the long run.
Is one more beneficial than the other? I've been with AT&T for 20 years, so don't see moving in the next 2 years. I know the 24 monthly payments is a way to ensure you stay with AT&T.
But, what else am I missing?

Why the down votes? Asking a legtimate question I don’t know the answer to.
Price being the same, what are the pros/cons of paying it in full versus paying monthly for 24 months. I can do either, just want to make sure I’m doing what’s best.
I double checked pricing and in full and 24 months with AT&T are exactly the same price wise.

I find it easier to do the Apple program (I'm on AT&T) but I also upgrade every year.
Already did the preapproval so it should be easy enough in the middle of the night and should be here next friday.

iUP is the best option IMO.. especially for those who get new phones each year. The pre approval is done before and it’s literally one click when you wake up. Apple care+ being included is nice too...

edited - I see the pre approval options with IUD.
Follow up question (sorry for all the questions) - pre approved and it says log back in 9/14/18 when ordering starts, do i just go into the apple store app and something will show to finalize? When i go into the app now it doesn't show anything.

i noticed the XR cannot be ordered until 10/19
do you think its an availability issue, or does apple want all early adopters to not have the option of going the cheaper route?

This is my first year doing preapproval. Last year I went in at 3AM and had to go through the whole process (still only took 5 minutes). I'm guessing something will either pop up or you just start the ordering process and it'll probably let you shortcut the approval stage.

The home page of the app will have a giant link to finalize your order

Not really sure why there's a difference. But they made it clear in the presentation that the XR wouldn't be available until October.
