Another vote for Overcast - favorite feature is "Skip intro," can skip the intro song, ad, and recap that happen in so many of my podcasts and get to the point.

If you're technically inclined, or particular about how you want your podcast app to work, Podcast Addict on Android is awesome. Not that it's hard to use by any means, but there are all but certainly 'simpler' apps. Besides the available customization, PA also shows artwork for the podcast you're listening to. Some of them have really sweet artwork and some even changes per episode. Not a huge deal, but I quite enjoy the episode art for a number of the podcasts I listen to (Our Fake History and Around the World in 80 days are two with notable artwork)

I use Spotify now that JRE is there. I used Spotify for all my music too so it made it easier. Prior to September I used google podcasts, but the problem with google podcast is that sometimes the episodes are reverse ordered so it won’t auto play the next episode if it is a serial podcast

I use Spotify, but I've been thinking about dropping them and just using a free one.

My favorite podcast (No Agenda) doesn't have any ads, so it seems kinda pointless to keep paying Spotify 10 bucks a month.

If you have an iPhone is there something I missing by just using Apple Podcast? What would these other apps offer that the regular podcast app couldn’t do?

I have an iPhone, but I use Spotify premium for streaming music. That’s why I also use Spotify for podcasts. We have a few google home speakers and Apple Music isn’t compatible. Also, JRE won’t be available on anything other than Spotify soon

I've been using Antenna Pod for about 5 years (Android) I find it really easy to use. Sees to do fine with bluetooth in car too.

I started by using the basic Apple app. They switched between one app for all or an app for music and another for podcasts. The podcast one got shittier and shittier until I did something I had never done. I actually paid for an app.

That was many years ago. Perhaps the current Apple product works well. I don’t know. They ran me off.
