Sell me on this. I looked at it but I already have Chromcecast Ultras, FireTV boxes, built-in apps and a fast PC running a full-fledged plex server connected to my gigabit ethernet.

what am i missing out on or what use would i have for one of these boxes? what are the cool things it does other than play videos and come with a game controller?

You would post how great it is than you would come back a few weeks later and tell us how much it sucks.

to be fair i usually start out bitching about how what i purchased sucks and eventually start to warm up to it.

remember how much i bitched about sonos and alexa in the beginning?

If you have a google home based smart home like me, it will make you feel like you are living in the future.

It's much more powerful than the others. Unfortunately the Prime Video app doesn't do HDR (thanks, Amazon...).

It can run any AndroidTV apps, and you can sideload any Android apps as well.
What Android is to mobile operating systems is the same as what Nvidia Shield is to streaming boxes.

You can use it with your hdhomerun to watch TV live. It had a grid guide for your OTA channels. Live Channels app has a basic DVR and can do play/pause/rw/ff.

Some articles suggest it's a good Plex server, but I can confirm that IT IS NOT. It is, however, very good as a client for streaming software. I assume it's still the fastest of the streaming devices (it was about a year ago anyway).

Woah! Hold on there, partner. I have Shield and run Plex server on it just fine. In fact, I have had five streams operating at once to test it's effectiveness. Three were in the home on the LAN and two were remote using Internet and T-Mobile. My in-laws stream my movies to their home in Utah all the time. Just saying, your experience is not the same as mine, so... maybe it's user error or a faulty setup on your end?

CAD, I'll sell you mine for cheap. I got it expecting to fall in love but I didn't. Quite simply, my wife and kids and even I prefer the Apple TV 4k. We have that on all of our TVs except our bedroom where we have the nVidia Shield.

I like it but I don't love it. Wanna buy mine?

this...I use a pretty heavy duty PC to do my live transcoding for hefty files and it needs to buffer sometimes..I can't imagine a shield as the server but it would make a great middle man

True, he likely was transcoding. Everything I have gets optimized and put into a different storage drive, so when it's requested outside the home it doesn't bog down.

Everything else plays on my network at original quality.

It's the smaller one, not the 500gb version. Also, it's only like 2-3 months old. Bought it from my local bestbuy.

Look. I know that I don't know what's going on so instead of laughing at least bring me up to speed on the latest. I can't get my box to update and I'm looking on Amazon for a replacement but I haven't found anything better. I don't mind spending money if I can find something that works. Currently I'm running CSA93 android box. Amlogic s912 octacore, 3 and 32 gigs. If anyone has any helpful suggestions I'd appreciate it
