What equipment does DirecTV want back when you cancel?

After about 20 years of paying for DirecTV, that I rarely watch, I think I'm finally canceling. Do they ask for the dish itself back? Mine is mounted over my shingles. I'm wondering if I have to take the dish off, what will I do about the holes from the lag bolts? I'd rather just keep the dish up there and it just not be connected. I even thought that the pipe that the dish is connected to would be a good place to clamp an aerial antenna to.

If you decide to get rid of the dish, I removed the entire system then used gutter caulk to fill the holes and put the lag bolts back

When I moved Mom out of AR last year the old U-verse stuff in that big house filled a large black garbage bag.

That's the way I took it to UPS down the street from where we now live in LA. UPS scanned the labels on each piece of equipment, packed it up, gave us a receipt.

I figure I need to hang onto that receipt for about a century since ATT cannot be trusted.

Keep the dish. If the box you have is older, sometimes they will say keep that too. They should tell you when you cancel.

The only equipment they want back is hd receivers. You'd be wise to take the dish down and fill the holes with roof repair from a caulk tube. It's $5 at lowes and it's good stuff (use gloves). Those lags screws will leak or already have leaked. screws like that in a roof need to be checked every couple of years. A roof is constantly moving and nails and screws will work loose.

I just cancelled a couple weeks ago. I got an email a few days later telling me they don't want anything back and to recycle it.

You only need to return your inside equipment and make Damm sure you get tracking numbers. When I brought my stuff back I shipped UPS. I lost my tracking number and low and behold I got a bill from Direct TV for two TV boxes and the cable modem for the internet. I argued with them for a couple of months and they quit bugging me. I don’t know if they finally found the equipment I sent back or just wrote it off. My guess is they finally found the equipment I had sent back

I made them mount my dish on a pole next to the rear of my house. There was no way I was going to let them drill into my roof.

I removed the dish and installed and exterior antenna. The coax for local channels is already in place for every room.

I got snail mail from ATT, or I should say Mom did, confirming receipt of the shipping order from UPS and also the actual equipment.

Of course if they really had any problem I was like screw it. They refused to take Dads name off the account or even put Mom 1st after providing them with a certified copy of Dad's death certificate.

So if they have a problem, we've got the urn of his ashes they can collect from.

The boxes from my mom's house are still sitting in a bag in my garage almost 2 years after she died. I told AT&T they could come get them if they really wanted them, but I wasn't going out of my way to take them anywhere.
