Should I go with a VPN on my home network? If yes, any recommendations on which one?

Switch your default DNS on the router sitting behind your modem to something like Cloudflare, at least to block spyware sites.
I bought a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited (good, but not great, I think it was $149 for five devices for life) to watch porn in the UAE a couple of years ago, but I only use it on my laptop, iPad, and iPhone, but I do it every time I'm not on my home Wifi. Configuring OpenVPN on a home router is a bit of a pain in the arse, depending on your router manufacturer.
Unless you're like some of the geniuses here that insist that downloading movies is easier/faster/safer than ripping them with MakeMKV and Handbrake, I probably wouldn't bother. You're probably signed into a Youtube/google account which is tracking everything you do, on any site, anyway. If you're like me and you only open Twitter/Youtube/etc links in private windows, maybe. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother at home. Too many ways to track you already.

NextDNS for system or device wide ad blocking. Has other features as well.

Thanks for my early birthday present. An OP closed their own thread.

Opera browser has a built in VPN
Posted on 1/9/23 at 11:17 am to ForLSU56
depends on what you need it for
if its truely obstruction....have a cpu built for this purpose only and have tails installed on a thumb drive and run only through tor, never from home network and never use the cpu for anything else
if its porn...just use opera or xvideos
what else you need one for?

Thanks, but I have no clue what you are describing.

Nope, not for porn.

Not sure, that's why I started this thread. I guess because I've seen/heard the commercials about protecting your privacy online.

for a normal person....wouldnt worry too much. just use your credit card for purchases so you are covered if the number is stolen.
normal everyday stuff.....yea wouldnt worry much about it.
and what i was describing in the first part is using the "tails" OS that runs Tor. essentially unless you are someone hiding from one of the 3 letter agencies...this is completely overboard. in fact downloading tails immediately gets you put on a list

As I was typing this, there was a Nord VPN commercial on and really laying it on about how exposed you are when on the WWW.

Online privacy/security is very little about your lack of VPN. The biggest issues are data bases constantly getting hacked and your personal info, usernames, passwords, etc. being collected. Using a VPN does nothing to protect you from those issues.

Why do you think you need one?

I use Proton for Email/calendar and storage. They have a VPN that I was paying for anyways so I started using it some. My only complaint is that it seems like there are several websites who know when I've got it turned on and block me. I've mostly noticed it with some legal and larger law firm websites. As soon as I disconnect the VPN, they work - so I assume that is the issue.

You probably don't need one like others have said. Biggest thing for me is ad blocking. VPN is mainly for downloading public torrents that would otherwise trigger you ISP to generate a file sharing warning.

Just get a IPTV subscription if you want foreign tv. No need to try to get it to work with a VPN.

Instead of starting a new thread I figured I will piggyback off this one.
I need to appear to NBAtv to not live in Colorado so I can watch Nuggets games on league pass.
Any suggestions on one that will let me pick a different state, be easy to use, and allow me to cancel in a couple months when the season is over?
Would like to stream on a Roku or Apple TV if that matters.
