So I ordered some of these and a SmartThings hub. Lights came in today but not the hub. Anything I can do with them and an Alexa in the meantime?

Y'all should be moving away from ifttt as much as possible and just set up shortcuts in Google home to reduce lag.

I believe the bulbs are hub free bulbs. You should be able to control them after downloading the alexa skill. If they were Hue, you need the hub.

The only thing the smarthings hub does it put everthing you can control on one screen. Its basically a GUI

I thought so as well. I need a Lightify account to download the Alexa skill. The first step to create an account in the Lightify app is to scan the QR code for your hub.

Mistake #1

Unless your primary music access is amazon music. In that case you made the right choice.

In order to use the skill in Alexa it will usually ask you to make an account (for the bulb you choose). Setup is usually easy.

Well I've had the Alexa for a couple years now. Before google home came out. Perhaps I'll switch over someday but my boss just gave me 2 dots for Christmas.

Nothing wrong with the dot at all. We're only talking $30 here so it's no big deal to switch them out if the need arises for a Google one day.

Again for what I use my dots for.. Peer to peer intercoms.. Google isn't an option at the moment.

Dot works great and who the hell cares about playing music on a shitty $30 speaker?

Use a real audio system for music.

Obviously you just link it to your chromecast or chromecast audio to play through real speakers. And you have an assistant that doesn't tell you "sorry I didn't understand" 40% of the time.

Enable the google skill on alexa and get the best of both worlds. Easy to create and now can answer everything I ask

I think this is an exaggeration. For normal usage Alexa answers things just fine. If I wanted to purposely ask wierd things everyday just to test it then perhaps that statement would be more accurate.

Alexa works perfectly for word definitions, conversions, smart home commands, music requests, etc.

The only time I hear "I don't understand" from her
is when I'm being purposely sarcastic.

"Alexa, take out the garbage."
"Alexa, go pressure wash my kayaks and put all my fishing gear away."

$198 for this kit plus either an Echo or Google Home at Best Buy.

Eta: Actually I think the Echo is $10 cheaper. I picked up the Home bundle though.

Be aware that some of the apps that work with philips cause one of your bulbs to stay on sometimes. I had to reset the hub to get them back to normal. Overall, I love the ambiant feature and got it on sale at 139 as well
