any software company who creates an app in 2017 that doesn't automatically save your progress without hitting control-s should have their hips removed with a ceiling fan.

My 2nd cousin had his hips removed by a ceiling fan. Not cool bro

Sucks bro, there is a reason why we don't use Microsoft products in our mission critical devices.

Wait wait wait....you wrote 5 hours worth of code without saving, checking in, or committing to a branch and you are blaming this on software???
Intredasting....sounds like a PICNIC issue.

to be fair, i've been there. you get into a coding zone and lose track of everything except trying to get a complicated query to work or fix some fricking algorithm that should work but doesn't.
your argument may have held water 20 years ago, but this is the day & age of editing documents and IDEs that seamlessly save everything you do.
i feel the OP's pain.

So it's a little bit more involved than that when it comes to IDEs.

This depends on the IDE.....I don't think SSMS automatically saves every query window that you open. There may be a setting for it though....but I've never had it behave that way. Hell I'd have 1.6 million *.sql files saved on my computer

But to your point if this was done in something like Visual Studio, Eclipse, Code, etc then theoretically the default should be to save all the files at compile time.

While I agree with you, 5 hours is a very long time to go without saving.. the ctrl+s habit is so ingrained in my brain that I do it anyway and most people still should.

you dont say. tell me more about how to program.

I'm an ETL developer, I write code in SQL Server, Oracle, Exadata, Vertica using SQL Developer, SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, Pentaho, DBeaver, Aquastudio, and everything is checked into subversion.
Not a single one of those tools automatically saves your progress.

I seriously thought this was a CAD thread by the nature and font of the title only to confirm CAD was at least the first reply.

You're in Florida. Nobody is there to save you from your mistakes.

Excuse the hijack, but it's too far back for me to find the thread... CAD, aren't you the guy I was talking to about the hue lights?

Posted on 8/23/17 at 12:00 pm to CAD703X
We are starting a complete reno on a house we just bought.. im sort of overwhelmed with the totality of everything so maybe you can help me out... I want the hue lighting in my living room and master bedroom and possibly in my master bathroom (just in the shower) if i can manage that in a cost efficient manner
What do I need to accomplish this? If it means anything my living room and my master bedroom are about 40-50ft apart
Links would be great bc I'll be ordering everything one day this week
Thanks in advance pal, I appreciate your time - if you wanna bump one of the HUE threads, that's fine
