I was able to find it myself thanks. Keep enjoying Prison Planet though.

Sounds like Apple Music still has it, so you know free market and all, use them instead.

Hey, Spotify is a private business. They can run it as they see fit, right?

Just like that bakery in Colorado...

After reading the article that is a shite move by Spotify, but it does not change my opinion that you are a moron for spending as much time as you do trying to create your own personal music streaming service. However, if that's your hobby, and you thoroughly enjoy spending large amounts of free time manually renaming and organizing thousands of files, more power to you. It really reinforces the idea you are probably on the spectrum, but good for you. You shouldn't need the Tech Board to validate your life choices. But, for what it's worth, Good job, son.

not sure what else you'd call grabbing specific versions of different albums at a specific audio quality level?

how is that a tool?

by 'creating my own music streaming service' you mean clicking a button to grab a FLAC copy of an album i love and then playing it on my speakers?

woooooo lots of work required there.

No, by 'creating your own music streaming service', I mean spending thousands of hours obtaining, organizing (however deep that goes), curating, etc. 10s of thousands of music files, storing and hosting said collections on a server that you can then stream/download/obtain said music from and play on any device.

C'mon guy, you're not just clicking a button to grab your favorite obscure-no-one-gives-a-shite jazz album. I'm just clicking a button when I open Spotify. You've got quite a bit of time, money and work tied up into it as was made apparent in your Google music meltdown a few months ago. Don't downplay your Magnum Opus as something you threw together one Saturday afternoon.

well i had a digital music collection well before the 'least common denominator' karen-approved services like spotify came on the scene.

i have a single source to obtain music from. when i grab something, plex will 99% of the time match it correctly so there is nothing more to do unless i want to change which album artwork is displayed but that's also very rare.

my server is the same as the one i use for movies & tv so again, i set this up a long time ago and its basically maintenance free unless i'm adding more space.

because i admitted i had gotten lazy and let the google cloud take over. as a result, most of my prior stuff was a mess and what google threw up to me in the form of 'takeout' was unusable.

yes thats on me but i wouldn't have had to spend time fixing the collection if i hadn't trusted 'ye online cloud service' in the first place. ten years is a long time to spend neglecting your stored music because google made it easy to 'upload from anywhere'.

what i'm doing now is grabbing stuff that was lost in the google blackout years and new stuff and again, thats a SINGLE CLICK and then its available to me and my friends on any device.

do i trust plex? no. but at least the metadata is stored locally now in musicbrainz format so if plex ever goes away i wont be fricked like i was when google took over.

Private citizens and companies can censor whatever the frick they want.

I think you're confused by posting government censoring figures.

Liberal tech person here, who has the Spotify family plan.

It is disappointing to see them join in on the propaganda effort. Most of us gen Xers don’t care how virtuous or true our entertainment is.
