So it doesn't work at all if you have an android phone? Not that surprising.

I had no interest in purchasing it anyway because siri isn't the best assistant so I won't pretend I'm super upset it won't work with my phone.

you can't do shite with this speaker without a full on apple ecosystem to support it.

As someone that has a lot of Apple devices that has 0 interest in buying this thing, why would you want to buy this thing if you don't have Apple devices?

I'm sure 95% of people wouldn't want to buy it unless they are in Apple Ecosystem.

If the audio quality is true, it could replace my Google home.

Being tied to a single Eco system is dumb and narrow minded

i guess you wouldn't. still a shame apple has decided to turn a couple of tweeters & woofers into a proprietary technology.

Then you would be sacrificing the better assistant.

I was speaking in theory, but getting an assistant plus a high end speaker in one package is muccchhhhh better than a meh speaker and very good assistant

I disagree. I'd much rather the better assistant.

But that's because i would much rather a google home mini attached my surround sound speakers and not purchase the homepod or the google home max.

Not to mention i'm not sure the google home max would be categorized as "meh".

I would too, or at least one with a nice range of skills like Alexa, there are lots of options for great speakers.

They've been a closed system forever, why should this be different or even warrant discussion?

Yeah......Starting to get some real reviews and comparisons of the home pod. For those who would discount the reviews cause it’s a sonos sub Im not sure there’s a more self loathing sub

even then....damn thing only plays nice with apple music

product seems like a misfire on their part. Late to the game and limited, I don't get why anyone would ditch their current assistant for this

a majority of people don't have an assistant already. And there is always the security concerns that Apple has a leg up on, whether or not it is perceived or actual.

cant play spotify, can only set a single timer

thata a confirmed, FAIL, apple.

you can argue apple not wanting to support amazon music or google music but SPOTIFY? come on. why are you forcing apple users who like spotify to switch to your apple music crap to use the speaker?

oh wait..apple doing apple things.

Let's play a thought experiment. If Spotify came out with smart speaker, do you think they would support Apple Music? Would you shite on them for not supporting Apple Music?

As for the single timer, I agree, that does suck. But you can "hack" that shortcoming. You can set multiple reminders. "Hey Siri, remind me to take the food out of the oven in 5 minutes", "Hey Siri, remind me to turn off the stove in 10 minutes", etc.
