I have a feeling Sonos gets bought within the next two years. If I were to guess regarding the most likely buyer it would be Sound United.

If I invite you to my house does that mean I'm paying you for friendship?

In case your Google assistant, Siri, and Alexa all fail at once the NSA is still able to collect all of the conversations in your house.

I doubt this one comment will change the way Apple intends to do business.

Literally every reviewer has said that the HomePod has done revolutionary things in now burgeoning field of computational audio. And every reviewer has maligned the integration with Spotify and third-party services or commented on the shortcomings of Siri. The consensus of reviewers have said the speaker on pure sound is competitive with most every sub-$1000 bookshelf speaker.
The reviews on the experience of the HomePod is mixed. The reviews on purely the hardware of it are unanimously favorable.

once again apple circles the wagons making their smart speaker only work if you own apple products already.
that's pretty shitty for a smart SPEAKER to only work with apple hardware. its just music.

To be pedantic, a HomePod can play music from other music services including Spotify from any iOS device. Music can be played from iTunes on any Windows PC. (An iOS device is necessary for setup)
Irregardless, there are tangible benefits to living in an ecosystem where a single manufacturer creates and supports products to integrate together, despite not supporting many or any third parties. But, the products and services have to be good enough for a company to be able to make such an argument for ecosystem Lock-in. I for one embrace our Cupertino overlords.

you'll have to ask apple about that

and how do you connect to those services? its no problem to always go track down a PC and fire it up to change the station? this is a no-win use case period unless you can fit a windows laptop in your back pocket.
as far as the bold part goes, how do you update your speaker firmware or fix issues?
you can't do shite with this speaker without a full on apple ecosystem to support it.

well...nothing. unless you ever misplace the iphone or the battery dies.
then of course your speaker will just sit there and stare at you blankly.

Well, electricity for starters. And an internet connection. And wifi. Just like those California Capitalists to FORCE you to use things like electricity and wifi to make their product even useable!!! So I have to schedule the power company and an ISP to hook me up to the grid so they can just bend me over a barrel every month? This is complete bullshite!

Yeah, one of my buddies that has electricity is now telling me it goes out sometimes? WTF am I even considering giving these people my money?
Seriously though, iOS device is only required for first time set up. After that you can control it via Siri.
