Apple, to be so smart and good, really ruined that app many years ago. I can’t remember exactly what went wrong, but it got so terrible that it drove me to pay for an app for the first time.

That $5 for iCatcher has been well worth it. There are probably better podcast apps by now, but I’m comfortable with it.

Sonos was the best wife friendly option. However, using Airplay with devices like Roku speakers became dumb easy, I can just cast it to my soundbar and listen that way.

Slightly related, does Apple Podcasts force "you might also like" podcast downloads like Overcast does now? I despise having to manually delete at least three podcast episodes of shows I don't want to listen to, every day.

My ultimate goal when this shite settles down is mount a tablet behind the bar in my living room so anyone can use it to play music on the Sonos

I know I’ve had issues queuing podcasts with the app. Fortunately Apple’s podcast app can handle it.

poorly designed update to the speaker controller app across all platforms resulting in nightmare issues adding speakers and playing music on existing systems.

Without knowing a single thing about Sonos or the incident, I would bet a few house payments they outsourced this shite to India.

If that’s the case, Frick them.

You are brave to give up such control. Vietnam radio or New Orleans ghetto, you got two choices.

Presently, here are my main problems with the app and my system:

Seemingly randomly, 10-20% of the time, when I pull up the app, it will show that there is no system linked. Despite the fact that it is hardwired, the fix always appears to be to take my phone to the basement and put it directly proximal to the hardware before force-stopping the app and restarting.

Certain long playlists inside of services like Youtubemusic won't allow me to scroll all the way through them. The list will just start repeating itself like 20% of the way through. (It will play everything in the list if you let it, it just won't display it).

The search feature sucks absolute arse now.

Adjusting volume is somehow more complicated.

And before when you were clicking a playlist it would ask where I wanted to play it. Now I have to go into the list of speakers and select it first before I hit play.

I'm pretty sure I agree with all this too.

turn the volume up on phone, see the bar get bigger

Set phone down. Volume still unchanged

Pick phone up again, change volume

Volume still unchanged

Pick phone up again and CRANK IT

Now volume at level 100 and wife turns around and gives you an ugly glare and tells you to turn it down

Thanks, Sonos.

Really. Thanks.

Literally the antithesis of what it was when we started buying them ten years ago. But, now that's ex-wife's f'ing problem! She probably hasn't plugged in more than one speaker, if she could be so inconveniced.

While hypocritical, I have to move into a rental house (learned that this AM from my new badass attorney,) and it's re-inspired the need to blast tunes at high volumes. HEOS seems to look like Sonos S1, and I could probably drop in their Sonos:One equivalent (2x) before I buy a place where I can run wire for a real sub, etc. Any experiences with it and the Denon 150NVs? Sources: Pandora, Amazon Music and a Synology NAS.

Sonos posted a public Trello board with timeline and list of broken features and prioritization

Jesus this is how you know it's bad.

What a train wreck of basic functionality that doesn't work. It's even worse than you thought it was.

I just play Spotify through my Sonos speakers. I haven’t used the Sonos app in quite a while.

sonosnet here.

Last night we were trying to play Spotify for some guests and the volume slider lag was horrific. It "remembers" every time you change it so when it finally catches up it's the cacophony of volume jumping up and down while nobody is touching it

The stereo pair failed multiple times and we only had sound from one side for several seconds..annoying as frick.

The Spotify song would sometimes just stop in the middle of playback. Inexplicable.

When I reopened the app it was reset to the start of the playlist so I had to go find the song it stopped on and restart that song or just start the one immediately after.

This happened at least a dozen times last night. We just wanted to drink a bourbon and enjoy the night.

frick you Sonos

Honestly, what did they do? The app worked fine on a Friday and was broken Saturday..but they can’t change it back to Friday?
