I dropped my DirecTV last month for DirecTV now (with hbo). I have a fire TV and a tivo bolt in my living room. I have a firestick and Tivo mini in my bedroom. The TiVo records local channels with an off-air antenna for me. DirecTV now is mostly used for my kids streaming Disney Junior and HBO go. If I had to do over again, I'm not sure I'd buy the Tivo devices. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with them and use them daily. However, almost everything I do with them I could do with the Amazon devices and Hulu Netflix and DirecTV now.

Do you have any regrets for doing this? This is the very thing I am looking to do but I don't have enough information about DirecTV Now yet.

I've had DTVN since week one and love it. I haven't had as many bugs others have stated. Remember this service is only a month and a half old. They are updating it frequently. The only issue I've really experienced was the history channel commercial mixup last Thursday night. It was gone several hours later.

You can sign up for a free trial and use it for that time and see for yourself before canceling DTV.

Both Vue and DirecTV are month-to-month subscriptions. Try both. I have Vue. Would be hard for DTV to pull me away. Quality is solid. Never fails, stutters, pauses, buffers, drops off. DVR function great. I get locals in DFW. I have it on five tv's, and can watch on tablets and phones.

The bad? It's only good for my home.

I have 3 FireTvs w/ Antenna, Kodi, Netflix and Amazon Prime. That covers everything we watch except sports. During College Football season I subscribe to Sling since its $15 cheaper than Vue even with the sports upgrade. Since October, I cancelled Sling and have been using Flawless IPTV. You get every british and american cable station in HD for 10 british pounds ($11 right now since the dollar is so strong). Flawless is not flawless.....individual channels can stop working for a few hours which sucks if you want to watch a particular show. But for the money its tolerable. I probably wont trust it next football season and will go with Sling again.

No regrets. I dont watch a lot of things live to be honest. I would say 90% of what we watch is on demand. Directv now provides us with on demand access to hbogo and the Disney jr app. I see complaints about the directv now app. I don't have any issues but then again I don't use it as much as others. Espn is my main 'live' channel. If the directv app is screwing up I could just launch watchespn. Same goes for some other channels like Disney. Their apps allow you to stream live.

HD Antenna
Netflix
Kodi w/ Exodus
Streaming sites for sports that aren't on HD antenna

About to cancel Hulu, they suck now and Kodi has replaced it and soon to be Netflix

I've never looked back and the whole family is satisfied with this setup.

Haven't had cable in 8 months. I use Exodus for tv shows and movies. Flawless for live HD sports/PPVs. Flawless also has an app for your phone to watch live anything including movies. You don't need Netflix/Prime/Hulu with a firestick. You'd be wasting your $.

I cut the cable and the problem we ran into was our cable internet went up because of how much we used it. I was paying $135 for just internet by the time ir was done and we were stealing passwords from family to have logins to the channels

??? HBOgo seems completely unnecessary if you are already using Kodi. Just use trakt with kodi and subscribe to your HBO shows.

i want to add 2 points for the cord cutting noobs in this thread.

1) I fought the good fight for Sling on here a long time. I gave up and moved to PSVue. Glad I did. Why? Sling splitting their package. Now you basically have to have both.

Sling Orange (Disney affiliated) - thus it's sport packages include all the ESPN channels
Sling Blue (FOX affiliated) - thus it's sport packages include all the FOX channels

You can't mix and match the Sports packages. I've tried. I've emailed support. And I wasn't willing to pay $45 a month for it and only be able to stream on 1 device. So, I went PSVue.

2) Be very careful just willy nilly deciding, "Ohhh, I'm going to be a cordcutter". Before doing so, find out about ALL of your ISP's in your area. What is their data limit?

Because their are some very very scary hidden fees for going over that data cap limit. For example, in my area the data cap limit is 1TB. I pass that, every 50GB used is $10. Plus a overcharge fee of $200. Then they want me to pay an extra $50/month for unlimited data. You think...ohh, well Klark is just silly because 1TB of data is a frick ton of data. Nope, not really. If you're whole family is streaming in HD non-stop. Downloading torrents. Playing online video games. And surfing the internet. Boom.....now your bill is $400 instead of $65

I wonder what the fallout will be if amazon gets sued to provide the information that they without a doubt tracking on these firetv's in relation to kodi.

Amazon is the least of their problems. You can put Kodi on any PC or Android. Amazon doesn't offer Kodi. It has to be sideloaded. Having said that, once you add Kodi it is only a media player. Amazon won't be held responsible for people who sideloaded an app and added content that Amazon have no control over.

You should also turn the sharing/tracking option off when you first get your Firestick/TV
