Sux. I recently moved and had att fiber 100 mbps for $62. Could be $52 If I had att cell plan. They offer 1000 mbps for $75 but I don't think I need it.

How do 3rd World countries have such fast internets and here in ‘Murica not so much?

I pay $59.99 for 100MB in New Orleans and it actually performs at 150MB according to that speed test app if that means anything.

Capitalism minus the competition part.
Most cable companies have monopolies in big cities.

Ding fricking ding. In other countries, companies are forced to compete on the open market, so they continually update their infrastructure to keep up. Here, even if someone wanted to come in and update the infrastructure, the government is so in bed with Cox that companies capable of eating Cox alive aren't allowed to compete against them and we get stuck with 30 year old infrastructure because there is zero reason for Cox to remove their dick from their customers' asses long enough to update it. Meanwhile, Mogadishu gets the latest and greatest technology when they build their infrastructure.
It may have been needed in the early days of cable to entice them to install the infrastructure, but the massive advance in technology since their entry into the market just makes it straight corrupt as frick to continue giving these a-hole cable companies monopolies instead of forcing them to compete. When I rule the world, the CEOs of these companies will be one of the first up against the wall followed shortly by the people elected to look out for us that sold us out.

I pay $90 for 150 Mb from Cox. AT&T just put down fiber in our neighborhood though so I should be able to get GB soon.

<-- Works for AT&T doing fiber installs. Can confirm company has a goal of having a majority of our customers transitioned to fiber from copper by 2020. We are presently lighting up a new neighborhood in LP about every 2 weeks.

quote:It's likely due to local municipal restrictions slowing down our rollout. AT&T is under an FCC mandate to get 12 million customers in our 21 state footprint connected to fiber by 2020. I believe we're actually on pace for 14 million. Anyway, our main impediment is local permitting--basically getting clearance to expand fiber into areas where various cable companies have a virtual monopoly. Which is somewhat ironic given our company's own past history.
What’s thre holdup in Metairie?
