Hang on man you couldn't watch anything on your TV because Samsung's servers were down?

Kinda.
We couldn't watch anything on Samsung installed apps. Satellite TV worked fine (yes we still have Sat TV), but Youtube, Disney and Prime Video, etc didn't work. When we tried to use the Samsung Browser (to see if we were truly connected to the internet) it keep give a bad security certificate error on every website. Apparently Netflix still worked for many folks, but we're not subscribed to that one.
ETA: Here's some more info via a google search...

Thousands of Samsung TV users faced a global outage on July 31, with apps like Netflix and YouTube failing to load. The issue peaked around 3:30-8:30 PM PDT. Samsung has not yet responded.
Samsung TV users across the United States, India, and other regions experienced a major service outage today, which left a lot of users unable to access apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Peacock. The issue began around the late hours of July 31/early August 1, and it caused thousands of users to report problems on platforms like DownDetector and social media.
According to outage data, reports spiked between 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM PDT on July 31, with over 2,500 incidents logged at the peak. Affected users shared screenshots of error messages and factory reset screens, believing their devices were faulty before learning the outage was server-side. Comments on Reddit, Twitter (X), and other platforms also reflected the wide impact of this outage.
DownDetector’s metrics further show that 79% of complaints were app-related, followed by login issues and website access problems. The issue seems to stem from a shared backend or cloud-based infrastructure failure, though Samsung has yet to issue any formal statement.
As of writing, services are gradually coming back online in several areas, but users are still reporting residual issues such as app logins, DNS configuration problems, and missing app installations.

I got a notification on my phone that the Samsung hub was down and we tried to watch a random cooking show on Amazon prime and it wouldn't load
I guess I know why now.

Damn. I was pissed last night. I reset my router and unplugged my TV and everything. Now one of the Echo Dots won't reconnect.
First world problems.

What ghetto people still use built in TV apps?

you do realize samsung has an app ecosystem so this affected everything from youtube to amazon prime video.

If I’m using a Fire Stick for streaming and my internet is running fine then the servers being down at Samsung shouldn’t be an issue. Are we to the point that some TVs won’t work if it isn’t get a return signal from headquarters?

No, not quite. But the best thing I’ve ever done to some of my TVs has been to factory reset them and leave them offline besides your streamer of choice.

My Samsung is hard wired so I use Plex and other apps on it natively rather than stick a wifi dongle that may or may not stream without hiccups.
Some stuff worked fine like Plex but other apps failed and I didn't know why until this thread.

Damn I reset my TV thinking it was out of memory or something. The apps worked but were SLOW as frick. Like you press a button and it responds 10 seconds later kind of slow.
So I guess now I know why.
