I usually get them for free when I just ask. What type of sim is it?

For the Nighthawk M1, it is a micro sim I believe.

One thing to be cautious of... I was doing some research and came across this feed on a reddit thread:

LINK /

"Apologies that quotes are messy, each return is another commenter. It was worse as a pure copy paste... )

quote:

FYI - there are more and more reports coming from ATT internal reports that the prepaid ipad plan loophole that you're using is going to be closed up at some point in the near future. I hope you have a backup plan.

No backtracking there. Using a plan intended for a tablet in a hotspot device is a violation of the terms of service. The Unlimited DataConnect plan is for iPads and tablets, that's it. It works in other devices because as of right now the BROADBAND APN works for hotspots (for now).

" Data: Tethering allowed only with 5GB plan. "

IMEI numbers and proper entitlements are about to become really important.

Sources please

So a little while ago it was possible to have IMEI mismatch on a bunch of stuff. People were on the 100GB WHPI and popping it into Nighthawks. Doesn't work now. Hotspot enforcement is coming to all plans. September 2018 was the target end date for all throttle rollouts to consumer, postpaid Unlimited plans. Wireless Home Phone and Internet, in effect.

It's coming to everything.

What do you mean by “hotspot enforcement”?

Just signifies the backend systems that now monitor, count and allow for hotspot data on a multitude of plans. Plus IMEI requirements for certain entitlements and such.

Obviously, don't believe everything you read on the internet, but just thought I'd share what I saw.

I have the hotspot up and running. Now I want to just use it as a modem and have my Apple Airport as my router. Once I connect the 2 with ethernet, do I have to change any settings of the M1?

This one specifically calls out the pass through features in the later firmware.

I think this thing would have to be completely viral for them to care. IT would probably take too much resources to change everything.

Not really. They just need to look at all devices on this plans imei and shut them down if they aren't the registered imei. Probably take them 5 minutes to take care of that.

My Apple extreme router won't connect to the M1. I went into m1 settings and put passthrough on.

When I plug ethernet cord from m1 to Apple router, my apple router blinks orange and won't get internet. The M1 works fine when I plug into a laptop. The apple router works fine when connected to Hughesnet modem.

Something happens when I unplug ethernet from Hughesnet modem and connect to M1. Confused?

But they'd have to continue to do that. They would have to change up some processes to not have to continue purging.

I mean this is probably.0000001% of the att universe and they are probably still making money on the $30 so I can’t imagine they care that much

For people who use the M1 as a modem and leave it plugged in at the house, do you leave the battery in when it's always plugged in?

I took mine out. No real reason to leave it in there when it’s plugged in 24/7.

Just wanted to say Thanks for everyone in this thread.

If this keeps as it is now, this blows my previous Hughesnet service away.

Use an IMEI generator and pick a generated IMEI that says it’s for an LTE iPad. You may have to try several different generated IMEIs till you get one the AT&T site will accept.

I just activated my service last night. The activation site would not let me use an IPad imei number. I finally used a Samsung imei from a 4glte tablet and it worked. I ordered an unlocked d-link dwr922 ($60)and a Sim card ($3) off eBay and so far so good. You have to put the Att settings in for it to activate. My cell service isn't great but, I'm able to get 4 meg to 12 meg service.

Got an email back from them Saturday stating I was in their coverage area. I'm going to give them a shot since the only real investment is a 100.00 modem and they have no contract.

Glad you posted that thread on them. I will check back after I get it installed.
