I think it’s just the google WiFi. Not the nest version.

I’ve been a Ubiquiti user for about 7 years, never had a complaint until last week.

For some reason I can’t get speeds over 10 mbps. I have reset, reconfigures, and done everything under the sun to rectify the issue. I have a 100 mbps connection and am hitting speeds of 95-97 mbps with wired connections. I don’t know WTF the issue is, but I’m done.

Ordered an Eero 3-pack today and will try that today.

Bestbuy has them for $199 and it includes a free echo dot, was about to buy one of those anyway; so it worked out.

Moneys pretty tight right now so I scaled back and just got the $40 att extender to try. If it sucks, I’ll return and get a mesh system down the road.

Anyone have experience with ATT’s extender they sell?

Have you actually had problems, or is it simply a PITA keeping up with updates?

Yes. Actual problems. Because my house is so long, if one of the nodes goes down its immediately obvious. I can't tell you how many times my daughter has been in the middle of doing her schoolwork on an iPad (there's some crazy math program she has to use and she has to do a bazillion problems every night) and the iPad loses connection to the Internet right in the middle and she ends up in tears.

I go check and sure enough the devices that were attached to that node are now trying to reach the main router. I have to climb up on top of her built-in and power it off/on.

I wonder if this is because I have 3 different devices (88u, 68u, 68p) and maybe since you bought the '3-pack kit' yours is more stable?

And yes, i've had firmware updates that broke completely and I was forced to factory-reset the whole thing.

The latest shite move is the password has to be between 5 and 16 characters and my current one is 18 characters and so I'm unable to log into the app on my new phone because it won't accept my existing password.

That is about the dumbest shite ever. Who allows you to create an 18 char password then decides at some point down the road to change the rules and lock you out.

Solution? I have to ..wait for it...factory reset the whole system again to create a new password that is within spec.

Yea that does sound like a PITA.

Like I said, I have been running the 66R standalone (no 3-pak kit) for many years without issues. I've never had to log in to my router since the initial set up. Frankly, I couldn't tell you if it's running the original factory firmware or not.....maybe it updates automatically....I don't know.

My experience with tech is that updates tend to cause more problems. After a major iPhone iOS update a few years ago that bricked my phone, I resist all updates as long as possible. Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows 7 (still working fine for me) and then they made the big push to get everyone on Windows 10. Now....it seems like every other day there is patch for a major critical flaw with Win 10. No, thank you. But I digress.

Would hope to upgrade to the Asus 88 as a standalone without issues and more speed. Maybe your system is a little complicated?

Good luck keeping your girl happy

There's my system. At least once a month one or both of those nodes goes offline.

Eta this is a screenshot from my old phone where I'm still logged into the app lol. I'm afraid to change the password and screw up my access completely.

I just did TP-Link Deco. Super easy setup, just turned off the WiFi on my AT&T fiber router, downloaded the app and set up 3 in 30 minutes. No more deadspots and only one log in. (Used to have 3 different WiFi log ins in my house, depending on location).

If you have Uverse, the cable boxes won't work w/ Google Mesh. I tried and had to return it. I think there's a way but you really have to know what you're doing.

That's not true. I'm sitting at home with UVerse fiber with 3 Google Nodes and it works awesome.

You can do 2 options:
1) Just disable the 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels on the ATT Router and then do the setup for your google fiber network. Simply connect 1 of the Google nodes to the ATT Fiber router, then place the other pucks where you want them and run the setup.

OR

2) Do all of the steps in #1 and just enable "Bridge" mode in your att routers settings.
