Please shoot holes in my plans for justifying a cell phone provider change.

So I am getting aggravated paying AT&T way too much much money for cell service. We are also planing on purchasing a new vehicle.
My plan is to switch to Sprint( I live on the Northshore) and jailbreak the iphones to allow for a hotspot + the unlimited data. This way the kids can simply use the LTE while driving and I do not need the entertainment package in the vehicle.
Thoughts?

You'll be happy you switched to T-Mobile or Sprint and will do everything you can to justify it, but their shitty service will wear you down. You'll be back in two years

I pay $241 a month for four lines with 10gb of shared data with ATT.
I feel like I can get a better deal elsewhere.

Yep I had this dilemma years ago when I thought Verizon was too expensive. Went to Sprint, did two years there, then went to ATT.
I used to like T-mobile, before internet data became a thing.
I also prefer the concept of GSM phones to CDMA.

Damn. You can get 4 5GB lines on Cricket for $140.

Make sure whomever you switch to has good reception in the areas you frequent.
It doesn't do any good to save money if you can't connect to your service.
A relative had problems in that area several years ago. There may be more towers available now. Don't remember which service was spotty.
Ask people who use sprint if they are happy with reception in your area.

When you change providers, they will pull a credit report. This will lower your FICO score slighty. You may want to get the new vehicle first with the highest available FICO score.

I'm all for ditching at&t but your solution seems drastic, based on service. What about Verizon, who has a 4 line 20GB promo for $160/mo? Admittedly I haven't looked into the details, but everything I read suggests that they're the sweet-spot of coverage and price.

The main issue with Sprint is coverage. Be sure you check their coverage map before making the switch. They have zero coverage in our area.

No, you pay $180 for the service and $80 for the phones. If you were not under contract, your bill would drop each month. Your phone subsidy is what brings your price so high. If you don't upgrade every 2 years on each line, then you are giving ATT fee money unless your price is automatically dropped on each line that "expires" the contract.

I just made the switch from ATT to Sprint this weekend and so far I have only one complaint (I can't browse the web while on a call - which I do every now and then for work). I live in Dallas though so the coverage isn't really an issue for any carrier in a city this size.
I was paying $115 a month for the 15gb ATT plan and now I'm paying $60 a month for the Sprint Unlimited Freedom plan (plus $27 a month for my iPhone 7 for 24 months).
I'd say give it a shot.

If I pay $180 for the service and $80 for the phones that would be $26 and I said I pay $241.
Also my contract is up. Yet to see my bill drop.

I appreciate all of the relevant info. Just sick of forking over $250+ a month for 3 iPhones on a limited data plan. That plus the addition of $3000 for the entertainment package in the vehicular we are looking at has the gears turning.

I switched to sprint 2 years ago in Dallas. It's really not good... Never have a dropped call, but cellular data coverage can be spotty in areas. Be careful in Louisiana, I don't think the coverage is very good.
