This doesn't really help much, but I just switched from an 8 to an 11 pro and it's worlds better.
I had a 20% off coupon plus $350 trade in for the pixel 8. I also got $80 in credits on Google, which I used for accessories.
Google then sent a 30% coupon, so my wife is upgrading as well. Two Pixel 11 pros with accessories for under $1,000.

I held onto a Pixel 7 for a while. I upgraded to a Pixel 10a earlier this year. It is better in every category. I don't see a reason to jump back to the regular or pro model, unless I get a really good deal on one. Technology has moved past the point of usefulness for me when it comes to phones.

Usually at Black Friday they have a $300 discount. Trade in last two years ran $600 and $700.
So I got a new one each year and kept out of pocket costs with new case below $400

Going off your pattern...
Throw away the 8.
Start using the 10.
Buy an 11 and stick it in a drawer.
Come back in 2 yrs and ask the same question about the 13.

quote:I believe this might be the most important hardware improvement of the Pixel 11 over the Pixel 10, especially if you live or work in locations that are on the fringe of receiving and maintaining a 5G connection.
They replaced the Samsung modem with one made by Mediatekk. Supposed to be better.
The quality and model of a smartphone's internal modem directly impact cellular reception, energy efficiency, and how well it holds a 5G connection.
The modem, working with the phone's internal antenna array, dictates how many 5G bands (sub-6GHz and mmWave) can be combined simultaneously. A more capable modem locks onto multi-band carrier aggregation faster, reducing random drops or bouncing back and forth between 5G and LTE.
When a phone is in an area with a weak 5G signal, a less efficient modem forces the phone's system-on-a-chip (SoC) to pump more power into the radio hardware to hunt for towers. This increases device heat and power drain, that coincides with degraded reception and 5G connectivity.
We live in a fringe area for 5G reception. All prior Pixel phones used Samsung modems. All of our prior Pixels were older than Pixel 10 and we experienced a lot of bouncing between 5G and LTE, and enough dropped calls to be annoying.
Our Pixel 11s haven't had any dropped calls at our house, and they stay glued to 5G. I suspect this is because of the Meditek modem. Our battery life is a good bit improved possibly because the Samsung modems in our prior Pixels were causing additional battery drain trying to hold on to 5G.
I'm not 100% sure, since all of our prior Pixel phones were older than Pixel 10, so I have no direct comparison. However, tests do show that the Pixel 11 is slightly better than the Pixel 10 in reception and maintaining 5G.
So I suspect that the Pixel 11 is definitely a good choice over the Pixel 10 if you use your phone a lot in locations (home, work, etc) that are on the outer fringe of 5G reception. If maintaining 5G connections on your current phones is not an issue, then the Pixel 11 only has slight incremental improvements over the Pixel 10 that are probably not very noticeable by the average phone user.
As examples, if the Pixel 11 (compared to the Pixel 10) can load a web page 1/4th of a second faster, and download/install an app in 50 seconds versus 60 seconds, most people won't really notice.

I just went from a 6 to an 11. The 6 held up extremely well but the battery went to shite the last month.
The 11 kicks arse and I'm not normally a tech person.
