I currently have a Moto X 2014 (yes, I keep my phones for a while...lol). I have enjoyed the mostly vanilla Moto X but have always been disappointed in the camera. I honestly feel that I do not take many pictures because the quality is crap. I'm looking for a new device and camera performance is on the top of my list.

I had Pixel on my radar due to both the pureness of Android and camera performance. The price drop this week has me interested, but I am a little concerned about the longevity of the 4gb of RAM and some complaints regarding displays. While in the past I would not consider Samsung devices due to bloatware, I hear that has gotten better. Also, the 8gb of RAM is inticing.

Thoughts?

Cool. What is your main driver for making that switch? Do you have any history with Samsung devices?

Samungs version of Android Pie is by far their best attempt at software. It's much lighter, less cartoonish, and is actually intuitive to use.

They stayed true to most of the design language that Google laid out for Android Pie so it's actually aesthetically pleasing.

Samsung always has the best hardware. They seem to finally be taking software design and polish seriously.

I pre-ordered the S10+, but I will probably still keep the Pixel 3 XL too. It's the best phone from an actual user experience perspective.

Pixels are junk. The power button fell off my husband's Pixel 2 XL 8 months after he got it. It was under warranty so they sent a refurb replacement. Wouldn't power on out of box. Finally did then speakers were shot. Had to send back for another refurb. Speakers crap on it too. I'm so sick of dealing with them right now.

I worked at Verizon from 2015-2017. During that time I went from an iPhone is best just cuz zombie to a phone addict. (Not to say iOS doesn't have some true advantages, because it does.)

My first Android was the OG Pixel and I loved it. Second was the S8+ and I was blown away by the hardware.

Since then I've literally tried every single flag ship you could name. Many of them I just return in 14 days. Many of which I sell on swappa for a small loss.

The Pixel cameras always seem to rangle me in. They are legit THE BEST. It used to be the smooth stock software as well. However with the Pixel 3. Google isn't really stock AOSP anymore and the software is buggy. Google is making lots restrictive head scratching decisions.

Mean while Samsung is pumping out monster eye popping hardware, improving software, One UI is very light, they've become much more consistent with updates although not Pixel level.

The S10 looks to be a freaking power house. Packed with features and hardware. The Pixel in comparison kind of feels like a project phone that has an elite camera. It's almost like Google's version of Android is becoming more like iOS Lite while Sammy is retaining the true spirit of Android.

My last 3 phones have been Motos, and I have loved them all, especially for the battery life. I'm also looking to upgrade, and unfortunately moto doesn't have any good phones available.

I'll probably be making the jump to the s10. From what I've read/seen it looks like Samsung has done a good job of updating their software. The battery is bigger (though still smaller than my moto). Having the headphone jack and expandable storage is also a must for me.

S10 is keeping the headphone jack, so I'm sticking with Samsung

I loved my Pixel 2XL. Then I killed it in an accident, so I got a 3XL. I don't love the 3XL as much as the 2XL. The 3XL RAM management kills apps off like it's going out of style, and it's very annoying. I never had that problem with the 2XL.
