I mean it's okay, but we've had Google Home Minis for a while now and just much more impressed with the Google experience. Alexa tells us she doesn't know, or doesn't understand half the time we bark something at her.
Honestly, I haven't sat and figured out all it can do yet. I guess you can go into the app and set up "skills" or tasks, o whatever they're called for it. Whereas the Googles, we just plugged in, downloaded the app, connected them to the network, and they were ready to do.

Yea, to be honest, I don't like Amazon's app design and layout. The skills section isn't too bad but I have a feeling that google crushes them.
Then again:
Google = App and Software Company
Amazon = a website to buy and sell shite
At least that's how they originally started.

From what I've seen, if you don't know why you have a voice assistant, the Google Home is a better choice. It's more sandboxy and handles random q's well. (That and who owns most of your current media - Google or Amazon?)
If you know exactly what you want it to do, and understand how skills work, the Echos are better. When my Show was handling 4 timers, constant flight updates, multiple playlists, and my task list and cooking/measurement questions and drink suggestions...that was when I realized how well it worked during a busy day.

GOOGLE - massive cloud infrastructure
AMAZON - massive cloud infrastructure
google has focused on B2B and has that market cornered with ads.
amazon has focused on C2B and has the retail market locked.
so in the end, these 2 companies are competing on doo-dads hooked up to their massive clouds and trying to line people up accordingly.
ring subscriptions are going to be consumed by prime..book it. makes no sense and i bet ring is already using AWS now..if amazon owns ring then they effectively have that for free now.
nest is the same; probably using (or will use) google's cloud for their subscriptions. however, amazon has a user subscription (prime) already in place for their users where google has none to speak of at this time except maybe that $1.99/mo upgraded cloud storage that only a few people use now.

i have all Amazon Fire TVs. but im thinking that my next one isnt going to be a fire.
a Shield or a Roku.
I switched everything over to Roku. The UI and response time on the Roku's are impressive. Plus, I like being able to listen to my earphones through my remote when watching TV late at night in bed while my wife sleeps (doesn't disturb her).

I have a TCL 55" inch TV with built-in ROKU on my TV as well for my bedroom. It's great.
Makes the TCL product a real value.

That’s an interesting point about both being cloud companies only Amazon is already getting a subscription. To further this point, I think Google has a massive problem to solve as more people use voice search. Now when someone searches for something there are 7 spots many companies are very competitively bidding on. It’s more than 10 if you count the local results. Voice is only going to offer 1 or 2 ad options per search. Just like the dominance of mobile has dumbed down the web because there just isn’t enough screen space for the same amount of information that was once aimed at computer monitors, voice search will dumb things down again.
Google will go from most companies big and small advertising through it, to mostly big companies that can afford the premium placement on fewer search ad spots because of voice. You go from all car repair shops, including most local mom and pop shops buying ads to just the big national players being rich enough to stay in the game. Even though they’ll charge more for the remaining spots, I think this could end up being a net loss in ad revenue for Google. And those lost advertisers will probably look for new opportunities with Google competitors like Amazon Auto Services and Facebook Ads.
One thing we’ve seen over and over in tech is that superior tech, which Google has and should keep the advantage in, doesn’t beat a superior business model.
